i live in dubai and i just recentley moved here and im looking at a new rig .
Everyone here drives Land cruisers and i always was a cruiser fan to be honest , but i also love jeeps too !!
i found a nice 1997 LC 80 Station wagon which is alot cheaper than a brand new wrangler over here or should i stick to a new 100 series cruiser or set my $$ higher and get a brand new 2012 wrangler 4dr? ? .. i dont know i am really not sure what to get ?
The lc 80 is considered the most capable station wagon offroaders and is very reliable durable etc ...pros , solid axles , triple lockers over here in the middle east , center , front rear . with a winch . Spacious , reliable .
or should i get a newer 1998-2002 100 series toyota ? only draw back is they are ifs , how ever they are bullet proof . un loves these .
or a brand new wrangler 2012
what im worried about is , do jeeps break down as often as people say they do ? the other problem is the spare parts for jeeps here are sky high compared to toyotas .
it's your budget and your personal tastes.....what ~I~ think or want is of no consequence in your circumstance.
get in--buckle up--hang on

Overseas your gonna get more toyota love then NA even though it does have it's niche in NA. Where as it's the opposite in most overseas countries the Jeep will have a niche following and the toyota will be more popular. IMO It doesn't get any better then a Jeep when it comes to offroading and just plain fun all around. But if money is an issue and the toyota offers more parts available to you easier and at a lower cost that would be something to greatly consider. I have no toyota love what so ever, trust me on that. But I do understand maintence cost and what that means when your on a budget and love to be offroad. Either way in the end I would avoid the IFS. And pretty sure the majority of us would agree to that here.

I would say u are in a foreign country and I would personally try and look like every other as@&$" there. Drive what they drive and avoid making yourself stand out. You can always get a jeep when u come back to the states.
i think i might actually get a cruiser , considering their is more aftermarket support here and a better resale value . I always wanted to own one so it would be a good oppurtunity since such a vehicle wouldn't really be useful in the US i guess .
Sounds like it considering that there is this established dealer for many years, and he's talking about buying a new one, where parts are not his concern for the term of his warranty and even if he remains there afterwards, the dealer wouldn't be in existence if it didn't stock everything or fly overnight courier stuff needed.
It depends on the roof you want and how much you want to blend in. As a long time keeper, I don't blend well and therefore I have a Jeep(european Spec) with the d44rear. If you ever see an orange TJ in Dubai, that is me.
I like the top off from October to May. You cannot do that with a LC. To be honest, I didn't look much into the LC over here. If you want a BULLETPROOF off road and great stock offroader, go for the 1989? To 2006 (I think) Nissan patrol 4800. And they are not available in the US. INDESTRUCTIBLE!
Part of the problem here is the inspections. Modifications are not allowed. Saying that, I have warn bumpers, 2 inch OME springs, and a 1 inch body lift with 32" Mickey Thompson Tires and Wheels. And a Borla, minus the cat. I have only been here for a year though, and not looking forward to next years inspection.
Another thing to think about is power. Sand takes power, or power makes the sand much more fun........ Power makes anything more fun. Do not get a four banger. I have the old 4.0l straight 6 and it does very well. I hear the new 3.9l jeep is not as strong, but has a better a/c, which is very important for most of the year. And engine mod's can always fix the 3.9.
