Need help quick!!!!! Please!!!!!

Hey all, I posted on here the other day that I was trying to sell my truck to buy a new jeep......well.....truck sold tonight, after only 3 days! meeting the guy at the bank tomorrow to sign over the title and collect my 6 grand equity. Bitter sweet feeling, I love that truck, but cant wait to be sittin in a wrangler! heres my dilemma....

I signed up for the tread lightly deal, but did it day before last and havent received the numbers yet in the mail! Is there any way to get my customer number....quick? I have dealers combing the area finding me a jeep, and am headin to a dealership tomorrow to TRY to work a deal.

I have 6 grand to put down and am pre-approved....hoping I am able to play hardball, I will not finance over 23 out the door, So I think Im goin to have to go in there ready to wheel and deal....anyone know anything about this tread lightly thing? or did I waste my money? Thank you for any input

I'm not a tread lightly member but plan on being one soon, so sorry I can't help there.
I just wanted to post to keep the thread alive and hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
Good luck with your purchase.

I crushed the TL price at my dealer. It was just a starting point, but that was about it. I think I used TruCar as a better deal than TL, then worked it from there.

Not sure where you're located. If your up this way VA... I would recommend my dealer anyday. Send me a PM, I will give you some contact info.

Good luck...

You sure about that? My understanding of treadlightly is as I wrote in the OP's other thread:

THEN you can sometimes try to negotiate even more, though I don't know how much success has been had getting below that.

Chrysler reimburses the dealer the profit lost as a result of the TreadLightly program, so it's as if you have a third party who's stepping in with some extra cash on your behalf. There's no reason not to work it this way because you'll never be able to negotiate a better result without it--the best negotiator in the world isn't going to be able to magically produce 2% of the invoice cost from Chrysler to put toward the purchase. It's extra money on the table for the dealer that would not be there otherwise.
This means that, absent another dealer reimbursement program, it's basically impossible to beat the price you could have had with treadlightly. It's free money to the dealer. So, unless you use TL, you're paying 2% of invoice that you could have had Chrysler pay. Put another way, whatever deal you got, you should have paid 2% of invoice less.

Thanks for your replies guys, I looked up on the tread lightly web page and it said they cant release numbers unless they snail mail them to ya....darn....Im goin to try my best to drive home a jeep tomorrow....there is one I test drove yesterday and they were practically begging me to sign, so by coming in with money down and pre approved I think I can get the deal I want....I hope. Most dealers are tellin me im crazy for wantin 23 out the door, but I think its possible....just goin to take some talkin

Definitely came in under 2% invoice. I have the TL, they did not need the number. Also have a dealer partners program from a large corp. They also beat that. Not sure what to say.. The sales guy rocked, no drama.

Lets just hope the service is 1/2 good as the sales.

There's no need to play "hardball."

Go in there and tell the salesman up-front what you're looking for.

The bottom line is that you have $6k cash, plus you've already been pre-approved. The ball is in your court.

Buck up and get it done! Good luck!

I think the dealer program may be duplicative with the TL discount, which could be why your number wasn't necessary.

My point though is that without the TL discount or something similar, you're leaving 2% on the table, even if you do negotiate down to well below invoice otherwise. It's cash back to the dealer that you could insist be credited to your purchase price, no matter what price it is.

At least, that's how I understand the deal . . . . I'm sure Pat@Fields or another dealer could give a much better explanation, or perhaps correct me if I've got it messed up.

I asked the dealer I am working with and the guy says he's never heard of it, then after I explained a little more, he says, oh yea, I think I know what you are talking about but I dont think we are enrolled in that cause it costs dealers to be apart of it....who knows....then before I hung up he says to bring my recipe for TL tomorrow when I go there lol!

Reason I think I need to play hard ball is the jeep I am looking at is a 2012 JKU sport S, red with tinted soft top, its listed for 28560 and I told him I dont want to finance any more than 23K out the door (I vaguely know the guy and am lookin for a no BS deal, thats why I threw the figure out there) and he says, he doesnt think its possible with TTL fees. I think its totally possible, i just think its goin to take me gettin up and leaving to prove my point and keep my ground....theres a dozen jeep dealers around here, all it takes is one to make a sale

Have you even considered a used one? I got a 2009 in January with only 20k miles for a helluva lot less than a new one! I was patient. I looked for about 6 months and there it was. Don't over-buy! You will need money for mods! I assure you! If you are looking at $28k Jeeps and only want to spend $23k, 1-2 % not gonna help! Good hunting!

Ive thought about used, but really like the new engine. I think by puttin 6 grand down, i think I should be able to get the deal done. I have one dealership workin on lookin, and goin to call another tomorrow that has one that I really want, and tell them that im heading to uftring (local jeep dealer) to see what they can do, and if they can come up with something appealing to call me....first dealer wins lol

Beware of false invoices.... Just Sayin!!!
Had a dealer show me a paper that was not a factory invoice
Do your homework you can find the invoice price before you talk to the salesman
And I'm not talking window sticker
The dealer prints that

I didnt think it was that great, I mean its a good deal, but if you think about it, without the down payment it was pretty much sticker price out the door
