Hey group, hope one of you can help.
Just picked up a 2015 JWUS w/dark tinted windows & the auto-adjust rear view mirror is useless.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!
If some aftermarket overly dark tint is preventing the mirror from auto adjusting, I don't see any cure except for removing the tint. The standard tint that comes with the Jeep from the factory will not cause a problem.
Note that there's a button on the mirror to prevent it from dimming at night. That's about the only option you've got available short of removing whatever tint you put on.
I've got the factory tint on both the hard top and soft top and have never found the dimming mirror to be an issue.
The button that shuts off the auto-adjust only makes the mirror darker. I was hoping this meant a flaw in the mirror itself.
I had the (very) dark tint removed from the front two doors (wouldn't pass inspection w/it & couldn't see a damn thing at night), but the mirror is STILL WAY too dark in the daytime and almost useless at night. There are no,windows to tint on my hardtop.
It doesn't LOOK like it's been tinted (what brainless idiot would do that... same one who tinted all windows, including front driver & passenger, I guess.
What I don't understand is thst it's ALWAYS dark, even in the daytime. Only works when sun is shining directly on the road behind me. And, from what I've read, shutting it off is supposed to keep it from darkening @ night. It gets even darker when i shut it off.
Maybe unplug it or pull it's fuse, then you know it's dead. It shouldn't be dark without power, should be a normal mirror then. Maybe it got damaged and the tint is not working correctly? Maybe you've got a gremlin? Maybe just rip it off and replace with a cheapo mirror?
Just some ideas, without seeing it myself it's hard to say for sure what's up
Yeah, I'm definitely sure about that. But either way, it's too dark all the time... I've been thinking of doing what skunkjumper suggested & replacing it w/a regular mirror. Prob won't work for night, though, w/ the uneven removable hardtop.
We're thinking alike, skunkjumper. I already tried unplugging it: went totally dark, even in the daytime!
... I'm thinking this thing got fed after midnight & I should pull it, put up a regional mirror, & hope it works @ night w/the uneven hardtop.
Check local scrap yard, if they have one you can probably snag an oem mirror for a bunch cheaper, they don't usually break in accidents. Or at the very least ask if you can take it out to the parking lot and plug it in, see if it works and that would tell you if your mirror is fubar
Good idea. My mistake was telling the local Jeep dealer it was still under warranty when I called for service. He did his best to not fit me in.
Think I'll forget to mention it when I call again.
While your at the dealer check out a similarly equipped JK and experience how a properly functioning auto-dimming mirror works. I would never go back to a regular mirror with all the BLINDING headlights out there at night! Perhaps your auto-dimming mirror has been modified or broken or wiring defects.
