Hello there fellow Jeepers, first time poster, long time lurker on this forum.
I just received my brand new 2014 Sahara Unlimited (Wanted the Rubicon badly, but decided to go with the family friendlier option) and am now looking into a modest lift just to give it that little ooomph.
I have been reading multiple posts on this forum, but I am still not quite confident about my future lift kit/tire purchase.
Tried to get some help from the salesman at the dealership, but I actually think he is more lost then me in this department.
I am looking into keeping the 18inch stock wheels that came with my Sahara and purchase these tires: Goodyear Wrangler Territory LT275/70R18 125Q
My question is the following, will these tires fit with the stock 18inch wheels or will I need to replace them as well?
One last thing, i have been looking into 2.5inch lift kit and have spotted this one as a potential buy: Rough Country 2-1/2" Premium Suspension Spacer Lift Kit With Performance 2.2 Series Shocks For 2007+ Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door & Unlimited 4 Door
Lifts and tires are the two most popular questions for JK Wranglers. Most of the answers are based on personal preference. A 2.5" lift is great but I'd personally recommend an actual lift with new springs rather than spacer lifts because the spacers can shift. Your tire selection is not bad but you may even want to get something larger (33s or 35s) but that's up to you. Here's a good thread that has lots of links you may want to check out.
Well, after a lot of pros and cons, I finally settled for TOYO open country AT2
in 35x12.50r18. I will be using my stock 18inch Sahara wheels.
The tire guy said that there will be no lift required to sport these bad boys. I plan to get a lift somewhere down the line, but for now, if it is not required its not a priority.
I still find it hard to believe that 35s on 18inch stock do not require spacers.
Do you think he was right?
Sorry to revive an old thread, but did not want to create a new one for what is essentially the same question.
I am on the verge (literary in less then 3 days) to buy new tires and rim.
After much debate i decided to go with the Stock 17 inches as opposed to the Sahara 18inches.
My question, would a 315/70r17 fit these new rims and my 2014 Jeep Sahara without needing a lift kit.
Also, a little food for thought. I know that these are considerably bigger tires. Would the fact that I am only getting 4 (as opposed to 5 with the spare) compensate for the extra weight and not affect my mileage too badly until i get the $ to get a regear?
Thank you very much. Very excited and cant wait to start posting pics of it. Will get a new bumper and a lift kit in the near future as well!!!!
Those are a 34.4ish inch tire. Yes you need a spare and a lift and a tire carrier. Wait until you can afford to do it right. If you have 3.21 gears, I doubt you will be happy. Even 3.73 may be pushing it as a little too high.
So, removing the spare all together is not going to compensate for the bigger weight of 5 stock wheels.
4x34inch tires>5x32 inch tires?
I have 3.73 the only thing stopping me at this moment is the fact that I am unsure if the 315/70r17 will fit stock 17 inch tires. Also if there will be excessive rubbing with on road use (ill leave the offroad till i get the lift)
Tried asking the guy at the dealership and he was less then useful lol
Also, it not just the additional weight of the tires that will affect your gas mileage but also the additional working of the engine to turn the heavier rubber. 35's = bad gas mileage, period. But every time I walk back to my rig and look at it I can't stop from thinking "Now, that is one sexy beast!" (Okay, I also usually say it outloud too.) So it is worth the hit in the wallet everytime I gas up.
As mentioned to the OP you are going to need wheel spacers for your proposed set-up. Stuffing 35's without a lift is also not a good idea. Whether or not you will rub, even while on the highway, will be dependent on a number factors. But i wouldn't want to chance it. Lift first, then tires is the recommended course of action.
If you are buying the stock wrangler 17x7.5" wheels, you will need wheel spacers. I am running the same size tire you choose (315/70R17) on 17x8.5" wheels with a 2.5" lift and I still had too trim my air dam. FWIW
