Need MPG facts.

Hey Guys

I'm giving serious consideration to buying a new JK Rubicon. I currently have an 04 with OME and 33s. We enjoy long range back country expedition type wheelin, Canada , Rockies, Moab, etc... Loaded down with camping gear, and dragging our off road trailer ( weighs in at 500lbs ) we get a whopping 12 to 14 mpg depending on ethanol content .. Usually spend 12 to 1400 in gas to Moab and back.. What is that Pentastar going to get in the real world ?

I do a lot of freeway & can get up to 21 if I keep my foot out of it. I try to keep the RPM's in the 1500 range for best results & letting the VVT kick in does wonders. Putting the pedal down, you can see the mileage drop pretty quick but the power of the 3.6 is nice. Pulling 2K+/- trailer I get 15-17.

Not much stop & go traffic here though.

Not much help here but our 2013 two door manual 3.6 with 3.73s and 33 MTs gets about 16-17.

I get from 19-21 depending on driving conditions with my 2013 Rubicon w/ 4.10's and 5 sp auto.....if you tend to drive fast 65+ that number will drop like a rock with it....pushing a brick while taching 3K doesn't get you good mpg numbers.

I'm impressed with the mileage I've gotten with it so far, better than I expected.

I am only 1000 miles into my 2013 (10A Rubicon 2dr), but the MPG has been steadily going up each tank - guess it might still be in the break-in phase.

Last tank I got 17.7 MPG (hand calculated) and that was city /country road driving, nothing over 45 - 50 MPH. First tank was 15.8 MPG.

Yep,, I'm currently getting 16-17 running around without all the gear and trailer... Always keeping it less than 65 and rowing thru the gears,,, RPMS never much over 2200.. Throw a second spare up top with the hi-lift and some water, hook up the trailer and poof ! ,

I'm seeing 17-18 on my usual city/highway mix, and around 21 on steady highway trips.

Keep in mind, I've got 3.21s though...

I'm in a 2 door with a lift, 35" tires and 4.56 gears. I also have a Bully Dog tuner with the "economy" tune.

On the freeway I will get between 17 and 18.

If I keep it down at 65 or lower I can push that into the 20's. I can even get over 21 if I keep it around 55.

You can....slow down and go easy on acceleration from a stop....you're mileage will be there.

2012 MW3 with heavy AEV bumpers and I get 19.2 mpg mixed... After turning off ECO mode. I heard it does nothing but after turning off I get better throttle response and went from 18.5 to 19.2.

I have tried many different way to get better. I am very careful and easy on the peddle... But it never does. I think the only way my Jeep will get better if you roll it off a cliff. Just make sure the motor is not running..

AEV procal and make adjustment for tire size. Mines also 2 door so Im sure that helps some.
If your running larger tires and no Procal your mpg will be low.

I have a 2013 with a 6 speed manual and 3.73 gears. Mine gets about 15 mpg in town but will see 20+ on 45-65mph mountain roads, which is where it spends most of its time. I have just over 1000 miles on mine and the average mpg according to the trip computer is 18.9. Granted it is not lifted, and i am running 31" tires, which is a little bigger then my sport came with but smaller then the tires most people run.

Lowest MPG i've gotten so far over 20k miles is something like 16.8. My average is bang on 20. But i'm stock with the 17" rims and SRAs.

yup, and if you have it set to the wrong gear ratio it will read incorrectly. I was excited that I was apparently getting 22mpg on 37's!

Hey thanks everyone, for the info, I had heard stories of 22 - 25 mpg, which I found unbelievable.. Getting a Pentastar powered rubicon with 4:11s will save me a whopping $200 every 4k miles.. I put about 6k a year on my 04, that includes trips out west... Sooooo,, no new JK rubi in my future... When the time comes, a Chevy power plant will be in order, same HP and torque as the Pentastar,, and about $25,000 less than a new jeep.. Thanks again !

Understanding Eco Mode - 6 Speed Manual

Not to sound like a raging idiot, but how do I utilize, or understand what the "Eco mode" is for?

I've owned an AWD SUV previously, and never had this option. My new jeep is a 6-speed Wrangler Unlimited. I would like to learn the best driving habits for better fuel consumptions, but haven't really gotten a clear concept of why it flashes, and other times it stays on for a minute or so?
TIA

The ECO light means nothing. The engine runs the same no matter what that light is doing. It's programmed to say ECO on when you are not mashing the gas pedal. It's got some dumb algorithm like: IF(gas pedal < 20% AND RPM <2500) ECO ON!!
