Needing a hitch...

Long story short, I was looking for a 2010 black 24S, with a specific set of accessories, one of them was a hitch. The color was a tough color choice and they finally found one in nearby Richmond, but no hitch...

I just got a quote of 277.73 for parts and 300.00 for labor, any alternatives out there...?

Lots. The hitch should cost no more than $100. $15 or so for the wiring and do it yourself for free labor. You're looking at no more than a 15 minute job.

I have seen people selling their stock hitch receivers for as little as $40. It bolts directly to the frame behind your bumper with 4 bolts. The wiring kit is a modular plug that plugs in behind your tail light.

For $600 that hitch had better be able to hook itself up to the trailer whilst you sip on a nice beverage.

Who knew? U-Haul wanted $300 + labor, so that seemed reasonable.

Here's what I bought:

Can't seem to include web link in the post....
Search for "Rugged Ridge Jeep JK Wrangler 2" Rear Trailer Towing Hitch 07-10" on Amazon.

59 bucks.

Quadratec has the wiring harness for like 20 bucks.
And I picked up a 3-way hitch from Harbor Freight for like 20 bucks.

I put on a Hidden Hitch from Quadritech for about $100 - installation took about 15 minutes. Some folks recommend buying the Mopar wiring kit for about $40 to insure the connections are watertight - other kits available for about $20.

$577 for that hitch and installation is a major rip off.

Great found the hidden hitch by Quadratech, installation is one page...with four bolts mounting to the rear of the vehicle...

Wiring harness 44 bucks for the official Mopar version, installation looks pretty easy...Quadratech is a pretty good site.

To think the dealership was going to charge me that much, hell I just bought the Jeep a little over a month ago. You would think they would be happy I bought American

Curt Hitch

Just installed the Curt Hitch. Installs on frame with 4-bolts. Bought from JC Whitney, no tax, free shipping. Instructions say to drop muffler for install. (NOPE) I did it with an open end wrench between the inside of the bumper and the receiver. 15-minutes and done... The hitch is great quality & powder-coated. Couldn't be happier...
