New '09 Wrangler Owner

Hi all! I have been the proud owner of a '99 for 10 years now that has never had a problem.. I love it to death.

I was in the mood to trade in a Camry because I hated it. Not in a it "just sucks to drive a sedan" way but more in the vain of "I will never buy another Toyota, ever". My first inclination was to be a two jeep family.

The first car I ever owned was a 1979 Jeep CJ-5. I loved that car. It was the greatest sense of freedom I had ever experienced. Since that day I have never not owned a jeep. Due to practical considerations I have purchased wagons though.

On Friday as I drove home I spied the Jeep dealership and decided to stop in. As you might be able to guess, 2 hours later the Toyota was gone and I was driving a 09 4 Door Wrangler Ultimate X. I got such a good deal that my wife wasn't even miffed for very long (I really shouldn't spend that much without consulting her.. at least calling her).

I feel like I am 16 and driving the CJ-5 again. I haven't been this happy in years.

I have a question though. I decided to not buy the upgraded stereo because every jeep stock stereo I have had sounded great. This one is horrible. It sounds so poor that I really wonder how you would hear it with the top down. I thought it might be defective but I was told by the dealer that that was the normal output. So I am down to installing an after market solution. Does any one have a suggestion? I will be going off road a lot and the top will be of the majority of the summer. I will need something that can take environmental abuse.

Welcome Aboard, Shipmate!

#1. Yup! Been there... done that! It's the "WIVE'S SECRET SCHOOL" they attend, sometime before they marry us..... it's so SECRET, my GPS can't even find it..... but it's out there! Ask any Married Guy!

#2. Yes, the Stock Speakers are sCRAP! I've seen them up close and personal. I kept the RES Stock Radio, with Single CD Player (Look at the bottom right of your Radio on the front. It should have "RXX", for whatever model Radio it is...). If you look at my signature, you'll see the Audio Upgrades I've made within the last two months. With this setup, I don't even need a Sub-Woofer. Matter of fact, my Bass pumps out so much, I actually have to set it dead center range, just so I don't loosen any bolts on my Jeep!

I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY with my sound now, and I get all of the Bass/Treble/Mid I need. I mostly run my iPod through the Aux Jack in the front of the Radio. I added one of these...

Monster Cable iPod Player (Link)

... it is AWESOME! I can plug it into my 12v Access on the left, pop the small plug into the Aux Jack on the front of the Radio, and the other end into my iPod. I can control the PLAY, PAUSE, FORWARD, REVERSE, PREVIOUS, and NEXT on the flip-up knob, rather than having to fool with the iPod directly. It's a breeze when driving, and you don't need to take your eyes off of the road.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

BB

Thanks for the info BlackBeard. Did you just disable the tweeters on the dash?

No! Part of the Alpine SPR-17S Component Package, were Tweeters. The Installer removed the Stock Tweeters, and installed the Alpine Tweeters. I've got six Speakers like I did originally, only they're all Alpine's now.

I learned yesterday, that the Tweeters just pop out from the front of the Small "Tombstone" on the dash, by taking a small knive blade, and pulling the front cover towards you. If that helps any.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!
