New '10 Sahara or '11 Sport...Please help me decide, thx

Hello:

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking to purchase a wrangler within the next week. I can't afford a 2011 Sahara.

I'm debating between a 2010 Sahara, or a 2011 Sport. I know they made a few revisions for 2011, is it worth taking a step down in trim level for it? Any recommendations? What would you do in this scenario?

Thanks,
J

Which one do you like the most? Is it more important to say you have an '11 or a loaded 2010? I would get the Sahara, but that is me.

Buy the sport and spend the money you save on mods.

Buy the sahara. I love mine. It's my daily driver and I enjoy the creature comforts...but I'm moding the hell out of it so it's awesome off road too. A moded sahara gives u best of both worlds

I'm in the exact same boat. As of now, I'm leaning towards an '11 sport just bc of the new interior(arm rests/dash/lock on counsel/door compartments) to name a few. To my knowledge, which isn't vast when it comes to this, the sport gets all of these upgrades. I'm definitely still on the fence but as for now that is my opinion. I'd love to hear what everyone else has to say/offer.

Which creature comforts would I be missing out on if I got the '11 sport vs. '10 sahara. Besides maybe leather?? Which I really want but can't afford unless I get the '10 sahara

I found the following quote regarding the 2011 Wrangler:
"Jeep has also spent time-- finally?-- working on the in-cabin noise levels: New acoustic dampening for the Wrangler and Unlimited models and a solid, removable hard top, should make this Jeep downright tolerable on the highway."

Not sure of the real impact, but nice to see emphasis on in-cabin noise levels.

Hey "Rob22", I'm leaning towards the 2011 as well with Customer Pkg 24S. It includes remote keyless entry, power convenience group, etc. Seems like a good compromise between the Sport and Sahara.

You can always dress up a jeep but the diffs are going to make all the difference in the world. A 3:21 will drive much differently than a 3:73, I would see what axles they have. I believe the sahara has a Dana 44 in the rear and the sport has a Dana 30. These are the real differences between the two models. The color matching fenders and fancy trim can be changed, modified, and updated at any time.

All JK's, with the exception of a reportedly very few early production '07's, have rear D44 and front D30. The Rubicon has a front D44. This has not changed for 2011.

I'm doing the same thing as well. I figure I'll see what the 2010 prices do when the 2011's are at every dealership, but chances are good I'll end up with the 2011 Sport with the 23s package, power package, and connectivity package.

The main reasons I'm leaning toward the 2011: First and foremost, the lower cabin noise (supposedly ~28% if I remember the figure correctly). I also like the trim a little better, and I don't believe the connectivity package is available in the 2010's. Oh, and the steering wheel mounted audio controls.

I'm sure that most or all of the '10 Sahara options are available as upgrades to the '11 Sport, one way or another. Getting the '11 Sport allows me to get a few extras not available in the '10, and I can still get some of those Sahara upgrades over time as I can afford them, without having to finance them.

May b a dumb question but what's the 23s option?.... Besides all the stuff we've mentioned, I think the arm rests were another GrEaT upgrade for the interior

The base model has 16" wheels, 23S adds:

Wheels: 17" x 7.5" Aluminum
Air Conditioning
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
Tires: P255/75R17 OWL On/Off Road

Same here. According to cars.com there's one dealership about 45 miles away that has a couple, but they didn't include photos with the ad, so I'm suspicious that they just put them up to lure people in and then try to sell them on a 2010.

I am in the same situation... Looking at a 2010 sahara or a 2011 Sport with 24S package.. The new interior is kinda nice.. My local dealer has about 6 new 2011's - mostly rubicons.. 1 sport and 1 sahara on the lot... I am leaning toward a sport with the 3.73 and anti-lok diff..

Talked to a couple of dealers here in the area today... they all say that the 2011's should start rolling in around the end of the month.

At least I'll have a better down payment by then. But I'd rather have my Wrangler by then!

I looked at one last week a 2011- the interior I think is awesome, just not sure if i want a Sahara or a Sport / not sure about the painted fender flares. the dealers insist they are easier to clean. then why doesn;t the rubicon have them ?

does anyone know if the suspension on the sahara and sport are the same ??

the painted fenders are infact easier to clean. only problem with painted fenders is they scratch really easy just like any other painted surface and they are like magnets for stuff flying up off the road. other then the scratching part i love having the painted fenders.

as far as suspension im not too sure about. but its not like either is taller then the other. i drove the 2010 sport, sahara and rubicon, they all seemed to drive the same and they all looked to be the same height.

to the OP if i had to choose between the 2010 sahara and the 2011 sport.... i would pick the 2010 sahara hands down if the cost was the same. if you plan on modding the crap outa it then find a 2010 sport if you can. with the money you would save you could get some nice mods right off the bat.

this is 100% your decision and you should buy what makes you happy! i was happier with the sahara then the sport myself. i wanted all the little added comforts since it was going to be my daily driver. over all it just seemed like a better jeep in my eyes for what i had planed. i was not looking to do any serious off roading, but i wanted the option too if needed. the sahara can do anything a sport can do while having all the extra comforts.

J I would buy the 2011 sport. The painted fender thing just doesn't sit well with me(just don't like them) Either way I'm sure you will be happy.

I have the Sahara but would prefer the non painted fenders. Less likely to get scratched and don't need to be painted if you have to replace one. I got the Sahara because I wanted all the toys inclining the Infinity sound system and Nav GPS.

Which added comforts odds the sahara have that the sport does not, besides maybe leather n nav?

All of these topics about what jeep to buy all depend on what you plan to do with the jeep.

If you want something to take off road without the need for mods, buy the Rubicon
If you want a street jeep and do not plan on a lot of modifications, buy the Sahara
If you want a Jeep and plan on adding lots of mods, buy a Sport

Just my opinion..

Depending on the sport packages, the big difference are;
Tubular side steps
Color match fenders
Bigger tires and wheels
Standard other upgrades (stereo, cruise, keyless entry)

You can compare them side by side on jeep.com

I'd go for the 2010, I'm not crazy about the 2011 interior.
