New 2009 Wrangler Unlimited Owner with Questions

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and this is my second jeep. I just traded in a 2007 wrangler x 2 door. I purchased a 2009 wrangler unlimited 4 door. I got the most stripped model they had and really want to upgrade the tires. I really love the look of the Sahara wheels and tires. Does anyone know if I can put Sahara tires on the X? With the stock tires I have it looks like there is more than enough room in the wheel well. Also, I noticed the Sahara tires come with tire pressure sensors, will these work on my jeep? Please let me know if you have any suggestions on where to get Sahara tires and wheels.

I donít mind the stock speakers that come in the Jeep but would really like something that a little louder and with a little bass. By no means am I someone that blasts rap or wants my car to be heard miles away. I'm on a tight budget and just would like to know if anyone had any suggestions of some kind of speakers that can offer a little more volume and can have a little bass to them.

I appreciate any and all advice you guys can offer me!

If you are on a budget then invest into a $100 Bazooka tube from Wally world and slap it behind your rear seat.

That is the bigger one of the series.

Yes you can put the stock wheels and tires from a sahara model on with NO issues at all.

The tire pressure monitor sensors will not work unless you have the dealer install the rest of the system. It will be quite pricy. Also they can be more of a pain than help.

You do not have to remove the sensors from the sahara wheels and tires when put on your jeep. Since you don't have the monitor system it will be as if they are not even there.

And welcome to the forum.

Think about it though.
Sahara wheels are 18" and the rubber for them is more expensive than for 16" or 17" wheels.
A nice set of 16" wheels with tires on them will cost less than just tires alone for those 18" wheels.

I sold my Sahara wheels to a friend for $200 with General Grabber AT2's on them with 50% tread ---- I hated those tires and hated the limitations of the wheels for rubber.

This is my Sahara now:

sorry; most of the shots are covered with trail splooge:

Welcome to the forum.

I have 17s on my stock rubicon. I wonder if they backed off of supplying them with 18s?

I appreciate all the help guys. I don’t know much about Jeep's so I appreciate all the input. I don’t necessarily need Sahara tires/wheels I just want to upgrade to something a little nicer looking and with bigger tires. The low end stock wheels/tires just make the 4 door look like a roller skate. Does anyone have any places they recommend I look at for Jeep tires/wheels?

Posts: 182 You could even pick up some Rubi stock take offs. Rubicons even come factory with mud tires so you may find someone there willing to sell them for nothing.

4wheel is having a sale for a few more days; 20% off everything. Plus clearance stuff. And ProComp tires are buy-3 get 1 free.
They own ProComp so they can give the best deals on them...
You can buy 5 16x8 (5-on-5) wheels for under $500 and some decent 32" or 33" tires $800 or so.
I got my wheels at 4wheel parts (free shipping) and then shopped the internet for the best price on the Wrangler tires and had Discount Tire beat the price locally.

Summit Mud Dawg tires (rebadged Maxxis Bighorn) in a 255/85-16 generally run about $150 each if you can find a store locally that sells them. My tires are 285/75-16 ---- a very common size for tires. You can find the new Dunlop Radial Mud Rover Maxx Traction in that size for about $180 each (killer tire).

happy shopping. Read a bit before spending. Figure out how you want to drive the Jeep. As I always say, tires are like footwear; you don't wear football cleats to dance ballet.

Gone camping,
