New 2010 JK Sport owner review

Hello all,
Finally got to spend some time behind the wheel of my new '10 JK Sport (loaded w/all the goodies) over the weekend. As previously mentioned in my first new member welcome post, this thread will compare my former 2000 TJ
('00/Sahara) with my new '10 JK:
2010 Likes: More powerful/better acceleration. Must be the four speed Auto compared to the old three speed auto in the '00;
17" wheels look good compared to the 16" on my old Sahara;
Better gas milage (due to superior 4 spd. auto trans and newer technology);
Smoother & quieter ride (must be the lack of a Borla exhaust ; ).
Dislikes:Wider (not necessarily a better idea, esp for a Jeep); Miss the forward/tilt seats for better rear seat ingress/egress of the old TJ; Miss the storage tray just above the stereo display of the old TJ; Miss the much larger storage center console & capacity of the old TJ; Miss the one piece hardtop (wish we had the option b/c, significantly less chance for leaks).
Long and short: Luv the new JK. Dynamically, I like it a lot better than my old TJ. Funny thing, of all of the new vehicles I've owned over the years (average a new vehicle purchase every year), I missed the Jeep the most. Had to get a new one. These vehicles are loads of fun/function/practicality.
Mods list: My JK is strictly a winter (third) vehicle for me. No Off-Road activity/adventure anticipated. Can't wait to see if I can resist the urge to add a performance catback exhaust system on my new JK; Will also consider a free flow air intake; Will add a spare tire cover and trailer hitch cover. Consider bug deflector/Door sill protectors??? Opinions welcome, please!
All in all a great choice and happy to be a Jeep owner again. I did notice, the "wave" is waning. I used to get "waved" at a lot more when I had the TJ. Is this a dying thing?

B/R,

BB

Great review on the 2K10, not that i'm in the market, but enjoyed the read. My neighbor has a 2000 TJ and a lot of this is exactly what he and I noticed. The JK front seat movement to access the back seat didn't really bother me until I saw the action the TJ's had with the forward/tilt. Why would they get rid of that feature. Such a great concept. Oh well.

This was a rather ironic read for me since I had a 2000TJ also.

I would agree on all counts except the power comment. My 4.0 had more power than my new JK hands down. I had the auto in my TJ and it was a sport model. I have the Rubicon, also and auto, now which has the lower gearing and my TJ still had much better power.

All and all I like my new JK better than the TJ. Well, except for the motor.

Welcome aboard ----- but please expect us to try and lure you to the woods...

Perhaps a nice set of bumpers and a winch rather than intake and pretty exhaust?

Welcome to WF.

I get almost 100% response when I wave a certain way. Two fingers up gets almost no reply. Whole right hand near the windshield with palm facing out gets the best response from other jeepers. I think it is just more noticeable.

A jeeper since 11/07 and still feel like I'm experiencing my second childhood.

Well, like JK'N above, I do the 5-Fingered Wave as well. When I was in Greece and Crete, we were given the same briefings about Hand Gestures from both places when we landed, and the stuff that was rubbed into their face wasn't Cinder. The link below, describes an alternative material that was used instead. HMMMM... I wonder if the following link is what's killing the "JEEP WAVE"...

Foreign Hand Gestures (Link)

Cheers!

BB!

Welcome Aboard, Shipmate!

GREAT Review of the JK! Always glad to have another BB onboard!

To offer some assistance:

1. I installed one of these, where the OEM Factory Flat Panel was above the radio:

Daystar Upper Dash Panel (Link)

2. If you're looking for something other than the generic Jeep Spare Wheel Covers, this is where I got mine:

Custom Jeep Tire Covers (Link)

3. Bug Deflectors "MAY"... cause your Hood to flutter. I'm not sure it will, but I had a Hood Bra on mine the first week I had it, and the wind would bounce off of my windshield and blow back under the Hood Bra, causing a flutter. I removed it, and haven't had any fluttering since. Also, I added Door Sills, and kept the rail scratches at a minimum.

Cheers!

BB

No hood flutter with a bug deflector.

Thanks for the responses guys...

BB, will def order sill protectors today. Had em on the TJ and I believe they do help protect the paint in that area.
BTW, is it just me or is the steering wheel a lot larger than my old TJ?

B/R,

BB

The sill protectors are nice- just do a good job cleaning the crap out from under them first- seen a few rigs back in with rust underneath from not cleaning road salt out first! D'OH!
The steering wheel is a LITTLE bit larger diameter- helps compensate for the larger tires (no, really)- eases steering effort- Mark W.
