New 2012 JKU finally here

Picked her up yeseterday,

JKU Sahara, Katzkin, (Max Tow) 3.73, dual top, limited slip, six speed.

For some reason, it seems a lot nicer (and peppier) than any of the ones I test drove. Transmission is shifting well, handling seems great.

Mods done through day 1:

Mirror flipped
Polk MM651 speakers installed in soundbar, with polyfill
spidertrax spacers
pulled the soft top out (hence the picture with the top off)
hotheads liners in

Today did a quick trip up to the mountains with the girls to go tubing, it would pull 6th up the pass at 70-75 without a problem, but didn't want to lug the engine that hard in break-in, so tended to go lower gears.

Found some wet goopy snow behind a parking lot for the Jeep to play in, and a nice small hill for us all to tube on...

Stuff waiting to go in:

2xpolk d4000.4 amp
1xpolk mm1040 sub
jbl ms-8 sound processor

Bilstein HD shocks
bolt kit for control arms

Loving it so far!

You have that top off now just take 15 minutes and drop them doors! A T50 and some sore thumbs from the harnesses and you're good to go!

Good call on the 3.73's cause I regret my 3.21's w/6spd. 6th gear doesn't pull at all and is practically useless without lugging the engine. Congrats on the new ride. Looks great.

Looks nice!!

Why the spacers on the stock wheels? Are you planning to get new wheels soon?

Enjoy!

Experiment to see if there is a noticeable handling difference. Part of figuring out when to get new wheels / tires, couldn't quite manage to get new wheels and tires $$$$ wise right off the bat.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the response on the 3.73. Still probably end up with a supercharger eventually though

I actually had to put the top back on pretty much right after because we went up to the mountains with the kids right after that. We'll try the doors soon though ... Was pretty tempted to get the doors off though ... Would help with the stereo install anyway

It was pretty cool seeing the girls (pair of 4 years olds) jumping up and down all excited climbing all over the jeep with the top off using it as a jungle gym.

Love you paint selection. I think mine handles better with the spacers.

I was doing 70-75 up / down the mountain pass and we had some pretty gusty / strong winds, and it seemed to do quite well.

I think from seat of pants vs day one, that it seems more stable but slightly less agile. Also seems more sensitive to steering input (ie steering is a little lighter). It was a noticeable change in the handling vs without, and took me a little bit to get used to the new handling. (and I only had about 150 miles on the stock setup) Plus I was going slow at first to not throw it around and make sure the spacers were solid.

Mine seems a little more stable. Had the lift and spacers done at the same time. Think it would have been top heavy without the spacers. Just remember to check the torque on those spacers as recommended. Happy wheeling!

Oh my god, would I have loved to be in the back of that thing when I was 4. My brother and I spent those years crammed into the back of a 911. Funny thing is, both my brother and I have owned Porsches.

You're virtually guaranteeing that your girls will end up lifetime Jeepers.

Pretty good possibility there. We got hooked on one after renting in Maui for a vacation. The girls call it the Maui car as a result. Any rate so far they love it

Ironically enough, the Jeep is going to replace my Boxster that I've had for 15 years. With kids its just not seeing much use

For whatever reason my steering centering and alignment was off after putting the spacers in. I read the DIY alignment and did that quickly and now I'm quite pleased with the handling with the spacers. I definitely like it better than without. New wheels and tires with equivalent spacing are definitely on the upgrade list but my wife thinks I've spent enough for the moment
