new airaid 3.6 intake

AIRAID - The Performance Intake Company

looks like you have to modify the stock intake some. choice of oiled or non oiled filter.

It looks identical to the factory airbox so why not just get a drop in filter. And I don't believe those numbers they posted at all, everyone knows air intakes get power when you combine them with a tune.

I'll still be running a cold air intake for another 2 or 3 weeks.

The weather will be warmer and it won't be cold air any longer.

Not entirely true. Most cars/trucks, for safety, run a little on the rich side. If you lean out the mixture, you can get some HP. Furthermore, engine breathing requires "labor" so the easier it is for the motor to breathe, the more power it will develop. While I agree that to get OPTIMUM horsepower, a tune would be ideal, simply adding flow modifications (headers, exhaust, intake) can increase power.

Believe it or not, 10 REAL wheel horsepower (not saying their claims are legit, but IF they are) is an excellent number to compensate for any type of weight gain we all go through, like rock rails, bumpers, larger tires, etc.

Can't you just get some special grease for the inside so the air slips through easier?

There's like nothing to the 3.6 intake to begin with, gimme a break.

Maybe someone can can experiment. Take the cover off of the stock filter housing, block or cover up the air inlet to it, and see how it performs opened up like that. Having not looked inside, if the stock filter is held in place by the cover itself, then try same with an after market filter that fits directly into the intake tube in the filter box and just leave it all open. Based on the pic. in this, other than fanciful claims of proprietary specialised 'membrane' material used in their filters, the whole idea appears to be nothing more than exposing the filter and intake 'zall:

Great idea! Then my engine won't have to "labor" trying to "breathe". This is brilliant! This should give me REAL horse power. I hate that fake stuff.

They all call themselves cold air intakes, and in most cases they are not. This unit does have a higher flowing filter however, but you could save money by just buying a drop in with a higher CFM rating. You may get an 8 HP gain, but I think you'd have to add a more free flowing exhaust to go with it. At least they've toned down the HP gains a bit in their claims. I remember some claiming 25 HP gains.

This is why filters are oiled. The help filter the air, as well as let it enter easier.
