NEW GUY here...A few Questions

Hi All,

I bought a 2008 4 door Jeep a few weeks ago. So far it;s the best car I have ever owned...I love it (besides the gas).

That said, there are a few things that I have been passing off as "Well, it must be because it's a Jeep".... Instead of doing that, I figure I should ask...Maybe there is something wrong.

First, Is it normal for the stick to vibrat and rattle around? Especially in 3rd gear?

Also, when I have the freedom top on, the Engine noise in the car is pretty loud. I sometimes cant tell if it is engine noise or road noise actually.

Finally, I feel like my wheel, and everything else, Vibrat a lot while on the highway. It;s not shaking....But there is a definate vibration.

Also, how much wind noise should I get with the freedom top on?

No, I have the "X" with 17" tires. I feel like when on the highway, with the top on, it's a little taxing. I cant tell if it;s the tires humming, or the wind, or the engine...But something is causing a bit fo noise, and a bit of vibration...It may be normal....

One thought. It's not unusual for the tires to be out of balance, especially if the one you bought sat on the lot for a long time (at least that's what the GM of a Jeep dealership who I know told me). Take it back to the dealer and tell them about the problem and don't accept that "it's normal".

Mine is much quieter than the TJ I had before. It doesn't vibrate either but I only have about 380 miles on it and it has the 18" tires.

My 4-door has the 16 inch rims on it, and it does great actually all the way up to 80mph, and I'm driving it 1 hr each way to work and back.

I agree it sounds like a balancing problem or flat spot in one of the tires. Might want to get it checked by the dealer before they forget who you are...

I feel like the noise is louder in 3rd gear.... It's hard to explain, but it almost sounds like my exhaust.....

It's not crazy loud, but it's driving me nuts because I dont know if it;s normal.

Let me ask this...

With your Freedom top on, is your Wrangler Unlimited as quite and smooth as a regular SUV or Truck?

Not sure who the question is directed to but I have the new JK, a GMC Yukon 4x4, and a GMC Sierra 3500 diesel dually 4x4. The JK is not as quite as either of the other two vehicles with the Freedom top on but it is a lot quieter than my previous TJ. Hope that helps.

Regards,
Richard

Here's a dumb question. Are you on the highway, hauling ass? The first time I took my jeep on the tollway I felt the same way. It felt like it was all over and noisey. Now, not a problem at all. I have a rubi, I know the tires are louder and it was brand spankin new. I got a few thousand miles on it now and I don't notice this anymore. It drives smooth, I don't feel odd on the tollway either. It took alittle getting use to, I drove a malibu and expedition prior.

Go drive a few jeeps if you really think it is off, good way to compare.
