I'm getting the Quadratec hitch. I've been looking on line for install instructions and it seems the easiest thing ever.

One video I saw had you talking off the back bumper first and installing it with the bumper off. I'm sure that would give you more room to work, but is it really necessary? It looks like you really wouldn't have to take it off.

Opinions from those who have done it are welcomed.

Shouldn't have to pull the bumper. The muffler hangers allowed enough movement to work the bolts in, so I got mine on in about 10 minutes including an 8 minute coffee break.

I got hitched today ... the Quadratec one.

The bolts on the bumper side are welded in place on the hitch. The supplied 8.8 18mm bolts go in front to rear around the muffler. The muffler moves and floats a bit on slip fittings so you do have some wiggle room to get the bolts in. The bolts torque to 85 ft/lbs.

Although It can be done without removing the bumper, and the space is tight. I found it very simple to remove the factory rear bumper myself. You can actually hold it with one hand while removing the bolts of the bumper. The bumper is basically ALL plastic. I chose to remove mine just to see what was behind it, and get an idea how crappy the rear bumper is. :)-)

I didn't need to remove the bumper. As said above, the welded on nuts makes it easy.

I found that starting with the bolts vertical and bolt head above the muffler assisted with wiggling them into place.

I also found that the pics in the Qtec instructions for the wiring harness quite helpful. I probably spent the most time finding the frame holes for the wire loom holder thingies (what the heck are they called).

The only thing different about the hitch for the hard rock bumpers is that it doesn't have the nuts welded onto it already. If you order it from Quadratec they have one for the hard rock bumper and one for everything else and are pretty clear about which one you need.

If I recall correctly, they are even the same price, so what's the big deal?
