NEW Jeep buyer. These are my sins.

I wanted to introduce myself...... I am part of the NEW Jeep buyer. These are my sins.

I bought the 2012 JKU Rubicon. Yes the Rubicon, why ?? Because I can. I learned long ago if you buy a vehicle, get the best one you can so you never have to look at one and wish you bought it. Will I off-road ?? Yes, minor trails and just horsing around. So flame on !!! Ya a Rubicon that's not gonna get to dirty. On that note, I spent around 36k and the heck if I'm going to get it scratched up and under water. Next, I wanted power everything. That's right, I was not going to have to lean over and roll down windows, screw with the A/C stuff and so on.

Mods..... I'm going to keep it mostly stock. If I get a lift and wheels than I enter the "poser" category because I'm not going to be a heavy off roader. Now when the tires wear out, then I'll upgrade.

The Jeep is many things to many people. I bought the soft top and 6 speed because that to me is what the Jeep represents. My top is off no matter what unless rain is in the forecast.

I'm a proud Jeep owner who's gonna keep it clean and shiny and enjoy the topless freedom the Jeep represents.

My money is going that in six months his opinion will change. Now which way he goes...that is the question.

No one here was born driving a Jeep, but once you drive a Jeep you will be reborn to the enjoyment of driving! Don't worry about what anyone else has to say, everyone has their own opinions of everything, just remember 1 thing.... ENJOY your ride! Customize it, do whatever you want because YOU like it not caring if someone here or friends will say something to you. I see no sins at all, the only sin would be to buckle to peer pressure! Welcome and ENJOY!

there are hundreds if not thousands of JK's, Rubi, sport, whatever, that see zero off road time whatsoever... I personally got nothing against em because they're helping to keep the wrangler from going the way of the Dodo bird and the Hummer

There are undoubtedly a few out there who would consider these things "sins", but one of the cool things about a Jeep, and especially Wranglers, is that you're not locked into a specific appearance or function. Driving around where I live, I don't see many that are modded.
A Wrangler is a Wrangler, and the fact is that they're a helluva lot of fun to be in, whether you're crawling the big bad rocks or the local mall.

Welcome from another new guy here too -
Mines only a week old (to me) also, top off, back seat and back carpet out, dogs are getting used to riding it in, bought it to enjoy. There's tons of great looking jeeps on here from stock to tree climbing looking rigs, each to his own IMHO.

Keeping a Jeep clean is a sin in itself to some Jeep owners.

I don't regret getting a sport and spending 17k less...lol?

Ya a Rubicon that's not gonna get to dirty. I spent around 36k and the heck if I'm going to get it scratched up and under water.

putting that soft top back on to clean it as much as you anticipate is going to prove to be a pain

Mods..... I'm going to keep it mostly stock. If I get a lift and wheels than I enter the "poser" category because I'm not going to be a heavy off roader. Now when the tires wear out, then I'll upgrade.

wasn't aware I was a poser because I have new wheels and tires

The Jeep is many things to many people. I bought the soft top and 6 speed because that to me is what the Jeep represents. My top is off no matter what unless rain is in the forecast.

but cleanliness, power windows, power locks, climate control and puny tires and wheels represent jeep?

not sure if serious...

but congrats on the rubi! happy modding!

Congrats on the new jeep, I will be getting my wife one soon and will also be going the rubicon route with little offroad use. Not sure why people dont embrace everyone that buys a jeep. The more jeeps out there the lower the cost and the more aftermarket support they will have. I have a 600hp Mustang and my Camaro loving buddy gives me shit about all the little secretaries that drive Mustangs. I tell him I dont give a shit the more the better cause they bring the cost down and how many aftermarket companies would be making parts for a ride that only sold the ~10000 units to enthusiasts instead of the 100000+ that they sell now.

Hallelujah brotha!! Sing it from the rafters!

Though I didn't plan on wheeling it, I bought a '12 Rubicon on 3/1 because f@ck it, I look REAL pretty in it.

Matching hard top, power everything, butt warmers, tinted windows, auto tranny because Jack in the Box tacos are hard to eat while shifting.

Smash cut to me 40 days & $1,500 in aftermarket parts later mapping out a trip with a buddy to Painted Hills this weekend.

I can feel it in the garage right now waiting for me.......to feed it.

Steering is less to be desired = LCA's
Ooh.... I need to center my axles now = TB
Now I need bigger tires, 33's? Meh, I can fit a 35- done.
Balljoints don't like 35's and are poop anyways = new balljoints new tie rod ends also.

Etc, etc, etc = bankruptcy

I am basically a paranoid little child that is scared he will do damage to his vehicle. I bought my 2012 JKU and now I've already started painted and changing things. Have to say though its actually helped me relax and I told myself I didn't by this thing to keep someone else happy just me... I'm scared where this leads though?
