Smile New Jeep Owner Needs Help...

Hello All! Newbie Jeep Guy here. Need some help with some probably easy questions (well for someone other than me at least). Posted this on another forum and seems no one likes to respond there. Hopefuly I found a better group of people here...

I Need some questions answered regarding an OEM bumper. I just purchased a 2008 X and it has no tow hooks or fog lights on the bumper. I saw a 2010 OEM bumper with tow hooks on Ebay. Will that fit my 08?

Also, since it doesn't have fog lights to begin with, how hard will they be to install? What parts besides the lights will I need?

Thank you in advance.

Not 100% but I think the bumper should be a direct bolt on for an '08. as far as fog lights I think the stok lights are 4" round so any should fit and will come with the needed wire harness. Than it just a matter of wiring them up and mounting the switch somewhere.

Thank you! Do you know if I am able to mount it to the stock turn signal stalk? I was just told this...

"The stock fogs are controlled by a switch on the turn signal stalk. So you would have to replace the stalk, along with proper wiring, and have a dealer re-program the computer for it."

Is this true? I have the fog selection on my stalk. I would think there has to be an available port on some wire harness somewhere? Or because I never had fog lamps to begin with, I need a new stalk and harness?

Seems to me if the blinker/light switch on the stalk has the pull for fog lights switch already there, it should be a matter of locating the output from the fuse panel or better yet, look for the wires in the front as it may already be wired but not connected. I would think that the body manual would have the wiring information.

X2 I wouldn't think you have to replace the stalk if it already has the fog light "switch"

You may be able to find the "fog" harness in the front frame recess, but

If your's, or the bumper your looking at, had NO FOGS---There's no place to put them

The plastic FACIA that comes with these JK's, either has the holes and screw inserts to hold the fog light assemblies, or----They don't

mMght have to buy another plastic cover for the front bumper--sorry, mines already sold !!

Well.. let me make myself clearer before I make me looks stupid. I see the fog light option on my stalk (just like my F150).. that is the OEM fog light switch right?? (right above the headlights?). I currently have the bumper that had no hooks or foglights (check out my Jeep pic). So I thought I could just buy the OEM bumper with hooks and fog light holes, buy some fog lights (OEM) and hook 'em up? Was I wrong here? If it wasn't so damn expensive.. I would go aftermarket on the whole package. Out of pocket with this OEM stuff I'm around $250. At least half the price of a decent aftermarket bumper and not even enough to buy foglights!

Your fog lite option switch, is the end of the stalk and you have to PULL it out (to the left)to energise the fogs, but

Although the jeep MAY have the main harness tucked behind the front bumper, it doesn't have the individual leads to each lite (I think)

They use SPECIAL sealed connecters, so You may/maynot be able to buy after mkt connecters, then without the fogs, I doubt if it's a fused ckt !!

I used NAVIGATOR 55W fog lites in addition to my stockers, with this OLYMPIC front bumper--The bumper was $260 and the lights, with all wiring/relay/switch/connectors, were $50 bucks

Just like I said a little while ago, spring for a real bumper; in the long run, you'll be glad you did.
The stock bumpers are made from old cheese and dent if you give them a dirty look.

Yeah... I read what you wrote just now. Looks like I might be going aftermarket after all. Hopefully someone bids higher than me. Damn ...should've done more research.

Here is what you are looking for if you would like to add the fogs to your new bumper. It is the entire kit from mopar. New signal stalk, wire and the lights. This is as easy as it gets and actually not too expensive.

Not only is all the above advice good, but if you look around at the various forums, you should be able to find someone giving away the bumper with hooks and loight cut-outs. I gave mine away when I upgraded.

bumper

4wd and quatratec both provide I think both provide OEM bumpers for JK 07 and up. Check with them or your dealer, I have a rubicon with fog lights and toe hooks, should be a straight bolt on for the OEM bumper to any JK
