New JK Rubicon

After some research, I have decided to go with a 2 inch lift for a new 2010 JK Rubicon 2dr. Since I don't plan to go higher, I'm leaning toward OME with the HD shocks. According to OME there should be no other modifications necessary to accomodate the Lift. I plan to run stock Rubicon wheels and tires for now, and doubt I'll ever need to run a tire over 33"

Any comments or suggestions from experienced Jeepers familiar with the JK would be welcome.

First of all, welcome to the Forum as I see this is your first post.

Congratulations on your new Rubicon. I love driving mine and the love is stronger than when I took delivery. This thing has grown on me big time. Hope you enjoy yours as much.

We love pictures around here. Try to post some as soon as possible!

This forum is a friendly place to hang out and learn about jeeping. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. There is a lot of people with solid knowledge about modifying the jeep.

Regarding the two inch lift, I also have been eyeballing the OME lift and HD springs but am one of those slow to jump in. As my jeep ages and the newness wears off, I will eventually lift and possibly put slightly larger tires in it. Same idea as you have stated in your post.

I guess one of the things to be concerned with is that the lift doesn't make the tires look disproportionally small in the wheel wells. So a two inch lift with 33s is probably what folks that have done it will recommend. I will be following this thread to see what people suggest. I have been reading a lot about lifting and so far haven't heard any bad words about OME products.

Thanks, JK'n. I'm pretty impressed with the Rubicon in stock form. From what I can tell, a two inch lift will extend the travel in the suspension without compromising the onroad handling and ride. From pictures I have seen it doesn't look too awkward with stock rims and tires. OME appears to be very highly regarded on the forums. A shop has quoted me 1165.00 installed with the H.D. shocks. The shop agrees with OME that no further modification with this kit is required to run 33s. I'm interested to hear some real world testimony to that claim.

Since you can run 33's without a lift, I see no reason why they wouldn't work with a 2" lift. You have 32's on there now.

Congrats on your new Rubi...we just bought ours last sunday {pics in the pic section}. We dont want to leave ours stock either. I will also be keeping an eye on this thread. I was thinking a two or three max lift with some beefier tires. I also want to add a winch because we do plan on taking her off road.

Well then congrats to you guys as well! The reading I have done so far indicates that the OME kit is a good value. I'm just wondering if the claim that no other modification is necessary holds true in the real world and on the trail. As the other poster mentions, you can run 33s on the Ruby stock, but the lift offers some other advantages, and yeah, one of em is it just looks better.

Well....I've heard this claim too but I've also heard that at full stuff, they may contact the flairs...soft parts. People trim the flairs to alleviate this. The lift would solve this. It also gives the advantage of added clearance for rocks and stumps and such. That is why I keep looking towards this mod.

All 33" tires, from diff. mfg are a different diameter when installed, from 31" to 33+", also depending on air pressure

You won't need a lift if you stay in a parking lot and always drive straight-no turns/no potholes/no angled driveways--

Without a lift, USUALLY you have to trim fenders/bumpers and use spacers or get wheels with 3.75" backspace or LESS

Every jeep is a little different, so choose your weapon !!

Isn't it also true that a good coat of wax, will do as much for your gas mileage as a $300 buck-Superchip, especially if you consider the miles driven to realize the cost recapture of $300 bucks ??

Ah... I think I was guilty of ambiguity in original my post. What I mean to ask is whether or not the OME kit can be installed with no further modifications to the suspension or the drive train. It's only a 2 inch lift, but what about drive shaft angles on the 2 door wranglers? That kind of thing.

4Wheel Parts says the sell and install the kit, and that no other modifications are required.

Out of every 500 OME lifts of the same Pt# sold all over the US and Canada, probably 15 to 25% have to have adj trackbars installed, 5 to 10% need new universals within 15,000 miles and 50% or more, won't be happy with the shocks/ride

Now that could all be BS, cause I don't have the lift kit ref'd and I don't have a 2dr JK, so

Perhaps we'll hear from 2dr owners that are happy/unhappy with that lift kit

I dont know if I missed it in someone elses reply, But just so you know the OME HD 2" springs will give you more like 3" of lift. The manufacturer makes these springs based on a jeep that has heavy aftermarket bumpers and other add ons like a winch or tire carrier. Just figured I would throw that out there.
