Got my jeep dropped off today for custom box and install at high voltage customs here in phx. They say the install will take around a week and will have the following

Kenwood dnn992 navigation unit
Three polk audio 12s
4 polk audio 6.5 coaxles
Polk audio 1200 watt mono amp
Polk audio 800 watt four channel amp

The box they are designing will be wrapped in black leather to match my custom leather interior. Will have the 3 subs firing downwards, the box will have plexiglass and red led lighting. In frobt of box will be a leather floor with the amps sunk into it and covered in plexiglass , the amps will lit up by red leds.

Also, they ate building the box where i have some room to play around with switching out subs etc as time goes by.

Below is a picture of kinda how the box will look. But with floor like other pic.

I couldn't believe what installers are charging now. I understand inflation and all that. But standard installs are about 4x what they were when I was in it in the early 90's. I know custom work commands a premium, but when did these guys start charging more per hour than a Mercedes mechanic?

I'll do my own installs even not having much free time. Even though I'm slower than a pro, but even if it takes me an entire weekend to do deck +4 and amp, its worth saving the $4-500. But Im not doing anything tricked out either.

I agree man in early 90s i remember getting custom box built for like 200 to 250 now boxes at most shops seem to start at around 500

Very cool! I look forward to seeing some finished pics...

Tonight i decided to order two morel tempo ultra component sets for dash and sound bar. I figure theyll sound better than the polk co-axles. Heres the stock photo of them from crutchfield. Other than that was planning on swapping the polk subs with sundown 12s but the shop is recommending crossfire subs instead.

Nice choice on the Morel's. That is my front stage as well...

So do the Morel 6.75 components fit into the dash of a 2017 without mods? The Crutchfield guide said that the 6.75 Maximos wouldn't fit and I'd have to go down to a 5.25.

I know the tweeter would probably need a little adaptation, but was wondering more about the mids.

I think all the Morel 6.5's are 165mm. Everywhere else calls them 6.5"s except for Crutchfield, they call them 6.3/4"... Crutchfield often says that speakers won't fit, when they actually do. Btw, that's a great price for the components!

I have the Morel Hybrdi MW6 6.5"s in my pods and they fit fine.
Hybrid MW6 - Morel 6.5" 140W RMS Mid-Bass Woofers

Guys, keep in mind that the pods are way to small for any of these drivers, so you will need to vent the pods somehow, or you could end up cooking your drivers!

I had the Milles on my first go around, but I swapped them out to the Morel MT250 tweeters and Hybrid MW6 mids (active). I like the sound of the Morel's better, especially the tweeters.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I've been kicking the idea of upgrading my speakers etc and adding a sub for a year now. Don't know if I want to replace all the factory speakers or just add some Marine tower speakers on the roll bar and a sub and be done with it. Decisions.

Good call on upgrading the speakers. Polk makes quality stuff however coaxes with the low end that you will have probably wasn't going to work well. As stated many have nothing but great things to say about Morel.

Now you just need to upgrade those amps... :)

In regards to cost, for myself it's not that much more. I paid $350 for a fiberglass sub enclosure for a morel ultimo 12 that was in my spare tire well in my last car. The shop charged me $100 for install including wires for my double din alpine deck that I purchased used, they even had to cut my dash a little to get it to fit. Again not in a Jeep

Looking forward to progress pics

I agree about the amps. Im thinking to get a sundown 3000 , sundown 200x4 and replace the polk subs with sundown 750 rms 12s. The only thing is the shop is recommending crossfire 12s. Im just going to upgrade the system step by step so not so much money out of pocket at once.

Definitely impressive. I do love the infinite different directions everyone goes with Jeeps. I couldn't commit to giving up that much storage space and spend way to much time doorless w/ just a safari top in the summer to ever feel comfortable with that much $$$ invested inside the Jeep. Looking forward to seeing it complete!

Got my jeep back but have to take it back friday to put the plexiglass in, it took the shop longer to etch the plexiglass than expected, will post pics.

Also decided to go with jl audio subs, zapco amps and morel components. [emoji16]

Still have to add plexiglass and lighting but here it is so far.

Also, just ordered a zapco 480 rms 4 channel to push the morl component systems. Next week going to order the zapco 2000 rms mono to push 3 jl audio 12 w3s

Might Want to Consider...

Everything is going to look and sound great! I am investing in the Tuffy security locking cargo deck so that hopefully that will deter wondering eyes from window shopping. Not gonna be 100% theft proof but will hopefully help.

Anybody else have this for their jeep?
Any complaints or praises for the Tuffy Secure Cargo Deck?

I have it, sorta... It does cover my sub, but I had to chop it up to fit it. I carpeted it and added some hooks for a cargo net.

truthfully I rarely ever even turn the radio on in my Jeep, especially if I'm running doors off and top down. I can't hear it anyway unless I'm blasting it (and I hate when people blast their stereos so loud that others can't hear their own, so I won't do it) so I just leave it off

I've been searching for new components this whole weekend. I'm kind of glad I lucked out on the tempo ultra's @Justin-az. Those impulse purchases always get me. Now I know what davidram means about addicting.

I spent a good time Sunday visiting local open shops again to fine tune my speakers/amp. I'm so surprised that the ones I visited didn't even fine tune amps nor heard of Hertz and even Morel.

#71 ·
If they haven't heard of those two benchmark brands, I would be concerned about their experience and expertise in car audio...

As far as the addiction goes... I am in the market for new headphones and that world sucks you in too. So far my shopping cart has the Sennheiser HD 650s, $350, and a dac and amp for $300. That's $650 for new headphones and I'm pretty sure my wife will kill me because I already have a great pair that's good as new... :censored:
