New JK....why black interior

Is it just me, or is black a horrible color for the interior of a Jeep Wrangler? It was the only option on the 2015 Sport. I have always avoided black because it shows every bit of dirt. I wonder why Jeep put black in the wrangler, a vehicle which will be exposed to the sun when the top is off, and exposed to lots of mud/dirt. Not ranting, just curious. I'll admit that it does look good, but just doesn't seem practical to me.

The top of the center console is always blistering hot when I leave the freedom tops off in the sun. I've burned my elbow from time to time haha.

You are right though, it looks good. I like the black interior of my 2016 better than the grey of the previous JK/U models, if only it didn't get so hot!

What color would you prefer? Most vehicle manufacturers start with 2 basic standard colors - tan and black. Tan leather is an available option on certain Wrangler models. I believe there is also a green option for the 75th anniversary edition.

If you are that dissatisfied with black seats, you can always order a quality set of seat covers, like Bartact, with colored inserts and stitching.

Most auto manufacturers use black interiors....I think that it's the WORST color for a basic interior. I have seen black interiors beautifully done....but it's with leather or upscale fabrics. The basic fabric in the JK may be rugged, but you're right....it gets HOT and shows every damn dust and cat hair that lands on it.
Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks have an absolutely horrible black interior.
I'd love to see some tan colors, charcoal blends, maybe some green shades would be nice to look at.
Even the seat covers are bland.....I do like the Kryptek designs...now they need to do them in colors to match or contrast to the regular exterior color choices available on the Jeep.
Imagine Kryptek in an Anvil color matched with a silver or metallic grey design. Even something in a snakeskin pattern.....the options are endless.....the auto makers mindless.

Every survey Jeep sends me I tell them they need more interior colors than black. Tan, gray, charcoal...anything but black. I have seat covers that are grey to break it up but doesn't do anything about the black everything else and that it looks clean for about 2 minutes....

If you want more deluxe choices, you need to get the more deluxe model. That's true for a lot of vehicles. The Wrangler Sahara model has a choice of black, saddle, or olive leather interiors.

Now, if we could only get the soft top in something other than just black, and the hardtop is something other than black or body color. On my YJ, I was able to get the interior in honey colored imitation buffalo scrotum vinyl, and the hardtop in a matching honey color.

Ive ever owned black or saddle leather. Does it get hot? Sure. But lets be honest, are you really going to be more comfortable in a tan interior instead of black if it sits in the sun all day? A real discernible difference? Nope. Anything north of 107 or 108 and our body interprets it as either "damn, that shits hot" or "Funny Bunny me, thats shits hot, lets avoid it".

Black leather interior - Damn that shits hot
Chrome metal slide in a Phoenix childrens playground - **** me, thats hot, Lets avoid it.

There is no worst colors for an interior other than black and white - each equally shows dirt.

Gray on the other hand is much better as it lowers the contrast of the dirt and matches all possible exterior colors.

US Navy haze gray (18%) is the best color ... I might be slightly biased.

Popular choice = sheep mentality

I agree with the OP: black is a poor choice for an interior exposed to the sun, heat and the elements.

Both my JKs have the Dark Saddle leather interior; they were a pain to find but it was all well worth the effort. I truly enjoy every minute in them!

I just sold two vehicles to buy my jeep, both spent about the same time as daily drivers, one had 70k miles, the other 60k. The black interior was "showroom new" while the gray showed exactly where my coffee got spilled And where my right boot rubbed while driving and embedded a bunch of dirt and grease. The seats weren't a big deal, but the black carpet was much better.

If it makes you feel any better, the saddle tan leather interior is hotter than a whore house on nickel night.:censored:

The F150 I traded in for the Jeep had a "Coyote" interior: 2 tone tan. I loved it. That was one thing I didn't really like about the Jeep, the catalog said something about a brown interior but the dealer said it didn't exist...

I have a white JK with black interior. Tan dog and live in an area with lots of red/tan clay.
I ordered seat covers to match my dog after one ride.

Black carpet and seats shouldn't be available for a Jeep. The only colors should match the local colors of your region's mud.

I guess you could argue for black interiors if you have a black lab and never take your Jeep offroad...

All Jeeps should have BedTred as standard equipment, with this fancy "carpet" you people speak of as an expensive optional upgrade for doofuses who don't realize how bad it's going to look if their boots are seriously muddy.

I loved the look of naked floors for a few weeks after I had pulled my carpets but hadn't installed BedTred yet. But the slipperiness and heat wasn't enjoyable. But I'd love it if the BedTred was body-color, in my case Anvil. It would show crap worse than black, but would look so good I wouldn't care.

Does bed tread block heat at your feet? It gets so hot and I'm trying to find something to make my feet not so hot
