New Member having a hell of a time trying to order a 2014 JKUR...

Greetings,

I'm a new member to this site, but not to Jeeps. In the past, I've had a YJ Wrangler, a CJ-5, and an SJ. Now, with 2 kids and wife in tow, I want to buy a JKUR for family adventure. I have to say, i have been having a VERY difficult time trying to get the vehicle I'm looking for. It seem here in southern california, the dealers are workign against JEEP to sell vehicles.

What I want isnt that complicated either, but I dont know why they cant find or order me one. Basicaly, I am looking for one of the following:

2013 - Commando Green - 6-speed with 4.10 gears, black hard top, connectivity group, max tow package and auto AC with heated front seats.

OR

2014 - Anvil Gray - 6-speed manual with 4.10 gears, Body colored hard top, connectivity group, max tow package, auto AC and heated seats.

I have gotten the following answers from the dealers:

1. cant find the 2013 and cant order green in 2014 - ok. got it.
2. cant order Anvil gray OR manual trans. there is a restriction.
3. we wont order the car you want with manual trans and no navigation because if you dont buy it, its hard to sell.

here is my question: what are my options? any good/trusted dealers in southern california? I'm in the los angeles/pasadena area.

I tried going thru Costco as I'm a member there. I got answer #2 and 3 from the local dealer.
I tried going thru AAA, and got similar answers.
Hitting the dealers cold was even more frustrating because standing in front of 4 2 door wranglers, the sales person tells me the 2014s arent here yet. I said..those 4 are 2014, they have clear turn signal lenses...he says..let me check the sticker..then comes back and says..huh, ya..you're right. I didnt know they were already here...

Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated.

for number 3 above, can't you just order the one you want and pay ahead of time?

Same problem here in middle Tennessee. Went to 5 dealerships and no one seemed to give a crap about getting me the JKU I wanted. It was a total joke and I was ready to say screw the whole thing.

If it wasn't for the fact that I had already sold my TJ I might have. None of them wanted to do a lick of work and were only interested in selling me ones they had sitting on the lot. Hell, none of them but one even wanted to order it for me.

Finally I found one guy at my local dealership (third salesman there I talked to) that was willing to do the work and believe me it took some work to find the exact one I wanted. After many tries and much searching he found one in the neighboring state and sent his guy to go get it. I didn't even know his price yet, I just told him to get it.

In the end he made me a great price and the day came to pick it up… finally. I think the other sales guys were a bit miffed I kicked them to the curb when the saw me come in working with the other guy but screw them. This guy did the work, got the sale and I made sure the GM knew about it.

You need to find that one guy…

This is what I have done, modify this to suit your needs:

I bought four JKUs off my sales guy in the last 2 years. Since your requirements are more specific (the manual and anvil), your efforts might take more time. My dealer will give about 10% off MSRP (+$250 doc fee) of about any JKUR I want. There's more margin on some loaded models but you get the idea. I don't expect him to have the model on the lot - so his search area is 250 miles. He's a larger dealer so he trades vehicles with other dealers (this is pretty common).

You can use Jeep's search tools (although 3 weeks ago it didn't work well on 2014's) and shop dealers. Your Jeep doesn't need to be at your dealer. They transport these amongst dealers for next to nothing. Since you're in a larger metropolitan area, somebody will play ball.

Have your financing (if necessary) arranged in advance - separate from the deal and tell them you are a cash buyer.

There are monies you don't see (like $600 from Jeep to the dealer per vehicle for hitting monthly quota), so don't sweat too many sob stories.

Hey dklassen,
I'm not too far from you and also live on the south side of Nashville. I am ordering a 2014 Granite JKU Rubicon as soon as it is available and have found 3 dealers willing to order and all seem willing to deal. You mind me asking which dealership you went with and what kind of deal you got worked out?

i havent gotten to that point where they were lieing about you can't order one thing on a 14 without ordering another option. to me dude they are BSing you.... check a few other dealers out...

green is gone now and apparently any GOOD remaining 2013 models are already sold. go and check more a few dealers see who will do a deal, they don't want to then simply walk out.

i'll be checking out a few dealers again on monday and finally making my order tuesday. whomever gives me the correct pricing for what im looking for thats the dealer that will get my money. if no one local then i have a dealer outside of south florida willing to make a deal and ready to get things going.

don't be affraid to venture out of your area for a deal. their out there you just have to find them.

Hmmmm, I just ordered an anvil JKU Sahara with a manual transmission and the max tow package. That's weird that they are telling you that. Now I will say we had to "reorder" it today because my wife picked out some wheels that are not available for the 2014. Jeep rejected the order, so we had to approve a new order with 2014 wheels. Hopefully we don't get another rejection tomorrow stating we can't order anvil and a manual transmission. As far as I know, the body would be the same no matter what, so I wonder why they are telling you that you can't order anvil and a manual?

Find a broker. You may not get the absolute best price possible, but you will get a good one.

I did that with my 13 JKUR 10a and didn't waste any of the time or have any of the hassles that you are facing.

However, unless you are ordering one to spec., you do need to have some flexibility. I too wanted the max tow and the manual transmission. Only after being told there was not a single 10a in OR, WA, ID or MT that met that criteria did I prioritize a little differently.

The dealership is blowing smoke up this guys ass.... how can't you order a manual transmission jeep without getting the navigation?? cmon really???

i have never ordered a jeep Yet, but plan on doing so next tuesday. for the last 4 months of doing research on this site, i have learned that if your ordering you can get it the way you want, not how the dealer wants it.

for them to tell you or whomever you cant do this because of this. is a crock of you know.... i suggest going to another dealer.

Some dealers / salespeople bend over backwards to help you, and others are more interested in selling what is on their lot at the time you walk in.

It might not be the most convenient thing in the world, but I would look for another dealer ... one who is willing to work with you and not against you.

After all, it is your money. Best make sure you get what you want for it.

Just because it is on restriction doesn't mean it can't be ordered. All it means is production wont start until next month on it and that the factory is at capacity for that trim level, with that transmission and those options. You can still place the order and still get a VON.

On the 10th or the 11th you can go into your dealer and order it and it will not be on restriction.

I found 1 Commando very close to what you want, missing the hard top.

Pat's got a lead there, and he's right (or course), a restriction just means you have to wait until it opens up again later, like a buffer to keep the line from backing up because they run out of manual transmissions from 1000 orders when only 500 mt's are in stock. So they close off the mt orders at 500 and leave at orders open. Once the shipment of mt's comes in they reopen the ordering process again. At least that's how I understand it.

I'm trying to order anvil unlimited, 6spd manual, and running into the same problem. The 23s package is on restriction around here as we'll. hoping the restriction lifts soon.

I haven't dealt with a sales person in over 12 years. I only deal with a fleet manager. Go to any site that you can build and price your jeep. The last page will typically have a button to click to have them contact you. 1% under invoice is easy to get if you know the numbers. I've ordered my last 4 vehicles this way with none of the BS you are getting. Money for Jeep should not be so hard.

Working with a 3rd party advocate now and working with the fleet manager. Hopefully I can order today or tomorrow. I have to work with a dealer 35 miles away even though there are 5 dealers closer. I just find the system outdated. If the dealer isn't providing an added value, I think they need to be eliminated for the chain. Tesla motorcars is trying to do just that. In my opinion, the added value of a dealer is that they ARE the consumer advocate.

We'll see if this materializes, I was supposed to have the order request emailed to me last night, but I still don't have it.
