New member: Painted flares on a black '12 Rubicon

Hi - new member here. First of all, thanks to all for this forum and for so many great posts. You've already been REALLY helpful in answering so many of my questions!

A couple questions:

1. Is it possible to order painted flares on a black '12 Rubicon - with a standard black hardtop? I'm being told different things up here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts (Pat, do you sell up here?)

2. Even if it is possible, should I??

I'm close to ordering a Black Rubicon, 2 door, auto, black leather, 4.1. Not sure about the flares though. Any thoughts??

I'm a new member, but I've owned a '05 TJX, black, 2 door, auto, soft top for a couple years. Love it and have never had any problems - but I drive over 60 loud, rough riding highway miles every day - - and i've always wanted a Rubi! The '12 changes are making this hard to resist. I still feel like I'm losing a good friend though..... but that's a different post.

Thanks again! I look forward to participating in the forum. Paul

You can certainly now order painted flares with the Rubi. I believe that comes with the painted hardtop, however. In other words, you get painted flares/hardtop, or no painted flares/hardtop. But you can't get painted flares and an unpainted hardtop, or vice versa.

That said, you may be able to arrange for the dealership to order you a painted flare/hardtop set and then swap the top with another "regular" top if they think a painted top will sell separately or on another Jeep.

As to whether you "should" . . . that's up to you. I vastly prefer the un-painted "mat" look of the regular flares and top, both for their look and trail durability, so I would never get the painted ones. But some prefer the look of the painted and don't really care about trail durability, so it's up to you.

Welcome

Yes- you now can.
Not recommended if you plan on some Off road adventures though. Don't want to ruin those pretty painted flares.

When I ordered mine in July, I had 3 options:
1. unpainted flares and top
2. painted top and unpainted flares
3. painted top and painted flares

It was not possible to get painted flares and an unpainted top. That certainly may have changed.

...And, I wheel mine regularly AND have painted flares. I DO recommend it. I don't know about black, but silver highlights the rock rash.

If you don't care about your flares getting dinged and scratched up and it showing then the painted flares would be ok. If you go to a bigger/wider tire, they will sit outside of the flares and spit rocks at your rear flares making them look like you escaped a mob shoot out. Ask me how I know this...
