New owner, fuel question

So I just bought a 2007 Wrangler 2DR with 34.000 miles and I absolutely love it.
But I only get around 11 MPG on the highway. I expected at least around 17 MPG, so could need some advice on this.
It has been through all the dealer check ups and no modifications (yet) with Nitto Dura Grappler LT265R17 tires on. I don't know if it's of any significance, but I'm currently living in Dubai where temps are easily around 110+ degrees.

Give her a fresh tune up,,, pluggs , oil, filter, and air filter. Keep tires aired up to spec.

I think the JK has a low octane rating of 87. Not sure what your set up is like thou.

Try some light weight synthetic oil. And change out your tranny fluids. Diff fluids.

If anything,, you will then know you have a fresh start,, and can then take better car of your Jeep.

Good Luck!

With 34k I'm willing to bet changing fluids won't help at all.

Air filter would be my guess, since your in the desert. Heat isn't helping any, either.

auto or stick?

what's she run like? hot? rough?

no fuel leaks?

what weight oil is in the Jeep?

lastly, how good of a grade is fuel over there?

Open up the airbox, throw away the filter, vacuum out the debris and install a FRAM #10348, close up and make sure your tires are at least 34psi, check your mileage for the next tank (freeway) !!

Good luck

Okay so just ran across this, and I can bet I know your problem. I recently bought a 2d 2007 wrangler X and was getting **** MPG on the highway, even at speeds of 70 mph, or atleast I assumed that speed. One day when I was planning on purchasing some a/t tires because mine came with highway tires, I figured out that the person before me had outfitted my stock 2d with 32 inch highway tires, so whala my solution was solved. My speedometer was terrible off at 70 mph, matter of fact, at 70, I was almost doing 80, which = **** gas mileage. I used my garmin and figured out what I need to do on my speedometer to truly do 65 and 70 mph, now I am getting about 90 miles to a quarter tank, which is way better than 120 miles to a half tank lol.

yeh if your speedo is off because of larger than stock tires (even if they are not larger than 32" may not be what it came with) then it will throw your miles per gallon way off. not that your actually getting bad mileage but when you do the math the miles you drove would be far less than actual if your tires are bigger. might what to check that out and get your speedo corrected.
