New radio/head unit

Wondering what a decent head unit you all might recommend? Been out of the car stereo game for a few years....my budget is around 100-150$...thanks!

At that price range I'd recommend staying with the factory unit. Something with decent utility, such as Bluetooth, GPS, iPhone interoperability, etc. is going to set you back $700-800.00.

Check Crutchfield....

You may need a bigger budget for new speakers and adapters as well.

Damn really? I'm not looking to win any sound competitions or navigate around the globe, just a few more watts per channel and a decent user interface..

I'm not sure how much luck you'll have in that price range, as kmrtnsn said.

We were shopping on a budget and got a really nice Pioneer AVH-8500 which you can buy online now for $367. It has all the features listed in the second post at about half the price.

I think a lot of people will agree that the speakers are bigger downfall than the head unit.

$40-50 would be eaten up by the wire harness(can-bus). If you wanted to retain steering wheel controls(if your JKs equipped) another +/-$50.
For a budget of $100-150, I'd replace the dash and soundbar speakers(2 sets of 77kick10s= +/-$150). http://www.amazon.com/JEEP-WRANGLER-...words=77kick10
I'd then save up +/-$400 for a decent head unit and harness(es).

Yeah, the biggest problem is all of the adapters needed to retain your factory controls, connections and other fuctions. Plus the stock speakers (especially the non premium model...which is what I assume you have) SUCK.

It isn't like the old days where you could swap an HU, add an amp, and go about your business.

Now, everything is run through the CANBus, so you have to have an adapter for this, and an adapter for that, blah, blah, blah. Do you have Sirius and/or Connectivity?

Cheapest harnesses/adapters(I could find): $45 Amazon.com: Axxess XSVI-6522-NAV Non-Amplified Non-OnStar Harness to Retain Accessory Power: Car Electronics
$50 Amazon.com: Metra ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface: Car Electronics=$95 for just harnesses/ adapters.
Pretty much blows your whole head unit budget.

So both of those are needed? I'll sweet talk the wife..she enjoys the jeep just as much so I'll explain it to her..

So those 2 adapters, plus a head unit around 200$ is roughly 300 +\-....

I used these two harnesses in my 2014 JKU. The second one is if you want to retain steering wheel controls(if yours is equipped).
