New Rubi!

Picked up my new Rubicon Saturday! Love everything about it...

However,

I live on a limestone rock road... and got my first paint chip Sunday...

My old Jeep was pretty speckled when I sold it.. had Pro Comp MTs on it..

The BFG's are picking up rocks the same way..

I called my local tire shop and they will trade me straight across, 5 for 5, for Hankook Dynapro ATMs...

4 ply instead of a 6... but I like the way they look.. not as cool as the BFGs though..

I don't plan on doing any trail that I couldn't do with an A/T tire...

Am I an idiot if I swap just to protect from paint chips??

PS: I will post a pic of my Jeep in this thread tonight

Unless you go with a complete road tread you will just reduce but not eliminate the flying debris. If you are that concerned get wider flares or narrower tires.

I would try adding mud flaps/guards first, then go from there.

Thanks guys. That's what I'm thinkin today.. I really like the bfg's... I'd like to go Duratracs next... so mud flaps might be the way to go... or just stop worrying about chips. I eventually did with my 07.

The bra is something that protects your leading edge of the hood from debris kicked up by others in front of you, not from debris kicked up from your tires. Mud flaps are your cheapest, easiest fix. Replacing the rock rails with side steps like the Sahara has is another option, but not the best if you ever plan on running in rocks where a rock rail is needed. Lastly, the best, yet most expensive option would be to install some wide, step-sided rock rails like the ones made by Teraflex, Fab Four, or Rock Hard to name a few.
