I have the same question but mine is aimed at the Brand New choice.
Price is not the same, but milage is
My goal 90% on road / 10% off Road. I'll work on increasing the Off-Road but I am trying to keep it real here.
I have a F800GS adventure bike and a Husky TE250 dual sport bike too... And I have been thinking that pulling my bike with my Honda Accord my not be good for the longevity of the Accord. But mostly I want a "Dual Sport" 4 wheeled machine too.
I started off thinking that the Sport would be fine. Then decided, if I am going to do it... Get the Rubi....
I am looking for Pros and Cons or just plain encouragement
I have a 2010 sport, I was in between a sport s and a rubi myself and I just figured if I want the bigger tires and off road accessories that come with a rubi I would just like to hand pick them all myself so decided with the sport and will mod it with what I like
2010 Wrangler Sport S
1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport
Why did you choose the F800GS over the F800S or ST? Its kind of a similar question.
I think you would be happier with a Rubi. Its a more cost effective route to go unless you are some kind of heavy duty wheeler who is planning on changing out all the stock components.
Stock it comes with 4.10 gears w, dana 44's, front & rear lockers, elec swaybar disconnect, heavy duty transfer case, and a warranty.
All that shit adds up big time. Especially if you plan on paying someone to install it all.
BTW mine pulls my SuperEnduro & XR400 on a small trailer just fine.
I am leaning towards the rubi... sounds like fun...
When I was making the BMW F800GS vs the other adventure bikes that were less expensive I finally just spent the money and got "the best" (IMHO). It was a breif pain to part with the extra $, but that was short compared to the quality I got for it.
The main trade off from the Accord to the Jeep wil be Fuel Ecomony. And I am an avid member for the CBOAA "Cheap Bastages of America Association"
I have this exact carrier and it works perfect with the stock tow package and my rmf 450.
With that little of offroading id go sport as well. Saves a ton of $$. I got the sahara b/c i only wheel once in a while. But im actually regretting not getting the rubi b/c when i wheel...well lets just say i wheel no holds bar
