Cool New stock wrangler tires only

Hi all... I have a 09 wrangler with the S package ..17 inch rims tow pkg etc..
it looks good and is tall for a stock model. I live in the country but dont serious off road much. I would like to replace the stock tires with a larger tire without doing any lifting. Also keeping the same 17 " rims on . What would be some good tire choices that would look good on my jeep. no doubt wider would be cool. nothing to aggressive . I was looking at putting on some Good year Silent Armors .Please advise ?

Same here... '09 X with the 24S Package. Here are some pics taken last year with Stock Goodyear Wrangler SRA's 255-75R/17's:

This year with the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors 255/75R/17's (Same size as Stock...) and my Black Rock Viper 900's:

Hope that helps give you a visual!

The SRA's are an On-Road Tire, while the Silent Armors are an AT Tire. You can tell the difference in the Tread Design.

FYI, my Black Rocks add an extra 2" width due to the Offset, and move my Wheels outward, but not too much.

Military? If so, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

Cheers!

BB

I got 265/75 BF Goodrich all terrain kos on mine. It looks clean and doesn't ride bad.

I HATE the look of my stock tires, I also can admit I have no idea what I am talking about when it comes to the tire codes "xxx/xx xx"

I have the stock 16 inch rim, can someone point me in the right direction? I'd like a wider and bigger tire, nothing crazy but something better than what I have now. The JK has a nice width, length, height but looks a little crazy with those tiny tires!

The problem with keeping stock wheels is the backspace is so large you can't go much wider than what they come with from the factory, without adding spacers. If you are willing to upgrade wheels or add spacers, then your options increase. You can find a great tire size calculator here 1010TIRES.COM® — Tires and Wheels Absolute Authority. and punch in your stock size to convert it to inches or vice versa. JK's can go up to a 32" tire stock height, but width wise I think on stock wheels you are limited to about a 10.5" tire. (Not positive on the width thing since I don't have a JK) But I know stock JK wheels have more bs than stock TJ wheels...

yes, that is obviously the best answer but in light of being on a budget I would like to keep the stock rim

Or do what I did... take the Jeep into a tire place and see all the options you have. I have a friend at Discount Tires and he gave it to me straight. I have a 09 JK with 17's and ended up with this in a 33

you can get 4 15" cragars for like $200. They will almost pay for them self becasue of how much cheaper the tire will be.

Hey Blackbeard, I love those rims. I wanted to get them but the guy at my local 4wheel rim shop wouldn't sell them because he said he had trouble balancing a set before. Anyway just wanted to say they look great.

Honey sell your stockers and pick up a set of 16" Cragars for <$300. If you can sell yours for the same, you've offset the cost of wheels. Or grind down the calipers and get a set of 15's for <$150.... It may be a bind if you have to go into debt to get the new wheels till the old ones sell, but look into it anyway. Lots of folks get those ridiculously ugly steel stockers on their JK's and can't wait to upgrade to a Moab wheel. And tires are cheaper for 15/16" wheels than they are for 17's.....

You could just go and put these on; a bit wider but shouldn't rub.

I'm just worried about going to a local tire joint that doesnt know much about off roading, then I'll have tires and find out that something needs to be regeared or lifted. I'm poor haha, one step at a time with the jeep

Dont mind spending

Money is not a factor .. I am willing to replace the stock Rims/Tires now .... without a lift kit on my 09' How about some ideas here that would make my jeep look tough ? I like to go wide . I think it would look good but not sure on the combination.

Thanks!

Hmmm! Mine balance just fine! Discount Tire uses the Mag Wheel Stick-On Weights on them.

I wonder if the guys at your shop were doing a Match Mount before they did the Balance? Makes a huge difference! Better Balance with Fewer Weights!

Cheers!
