My 2013 JKUR with hard top has been broken into twice in the last week. We couldn't figure out how, and they cleaned me out good. Well, I have an update, and you all may want to take notice.
I will start with last Sunday/Monday. On my way into work, I notice my jeep doors are unlocked/ and not closed all the way. Upon further investigation, my oakley's are missing from the dash, digital camera is gone. Nothing else. No damage to the jeep. They missed my SOG dive knife and keltec pistol in the map pockets. Don't grab the trucklite headlites, SPOD, or VIAIR system I haven't installed, but is sitting in boxes in the back. Lucky me.
I live in in a condo downtown, with a private, locked parking garage, completely closed in. Need a door code to open the garage, and jeep must've been locked...How did they get in?
Well, I call the cops and as I am waiting, ponder what happened. The best I can figure is this must've been the 1 time I didn't lock my doors. Cops come, I file the report. They tell me nothing much, good chance of recovering the high end camera at a pawn shop, yada yada yada. No evidence of forced entry. Nothing new.
I go to work, get off, buy a new camera. Make sure my jeep is locked. Continue life for a few days. Go home with the GF for the holidays, and parking her car, first thing I notice are my hood latches are unclipped. Then my doors are half-closed again. No way:atomic:! ^%#$^%$^%
I call the cops, don't touch anything. Go up to the apartment wait maybe 20 minutes.
Cop comes, I lift the hood first. Right off the bat I notice two 9v batteries wired in series. With a + and - lead. Unfortunately not hooked up. But this time I am 100% sure my doors were locked. Last thing I did before leaving for the holiday.
Cop said it has happened a couple times the last month, they think thieves are "jumping" the lock circuitry on wranglers. Go get a hood lock. Mine is ordered.
They managed to find the pistol, knife, new camera, change cup, spider-balls for my shade. My new Viair, SPOD, and Tucklites. Even took my registration paperwork and insurance info.
As I am giving my statement, I realize I had grabbed the impact gun from Meghan's car, when I got out. (why, I don't know). Left it sit on the front bumper when I went upstairs to wait on the cop. I go to grab it so I can put it in the jeep, and its gone! ullinghair:
I tell the cop add that to the list, and say I have been robbed 3 times now. He tells me they stopped to kids on bikes before I came back down. Said they were suspicious, and had tailgated an other car into my garage. They had let them go though, as they said they lived here. We found them on the lower level. With my impact wrench and some assorted odds and ends from the beamer they were at. Still no word on the rest of the goods.
Anyone advice on how to break it to chrysler? IMO its a serious design flaw. Recall worthy for sure. However, I can see in my crystal ball. As soon as I bring it up, they will flag my warranty and 6 moths from now, when some electrical component goes out, it'll get blamed on the "jumping" of the lock circuit and denied.
