New tires! Buy procal, flashcal, or flashpaq??

Just got 33s put on and can't decide what calibration method to use. I have a 2011 2 Door so I'm wondering if it'd be better to get the flashpaq to not only calibrate the tires but to also try to get a little more umph out of the engine and shifting. Also see that the procal won't calibrate gear changes if I decide to do that in the future. Thoughts?

Do not by flashpaq. Completely different animal, and reported issues with tuning.

Procal and Flashcal do the same thing. Adjust for tire size, gear changes, and shift points.

The difference is the Flashcal is cheaper (AEV Procals never have sales) and has a screen to read so its easier to use.

If the OP wants to try any different tunes then of the 3 listed only the flashpaq will do what he wants.

Yea, there have been some issues with it, I read them and felt I was playing russian roulette when I first plugged my flashpaq 3872 in. However I have a late model year JKURX 2014 (took delivery late march) with auto and I have not had any issues with the flashpaq. Granted all I have done so far is adjust tire size. Want to wait until first oil change before I try different tunes.

I'm happy with my procal. I read a lot of negative reviews on the superchips products, hardly any on aev procal. I wasn't looking to do any programming other than the speedo and tpms though. I have a 2014 so I'm happy with my umph. If you can believe all the reviews you should probably look for something other than superchips products for more umph....

I'm getting the flashpaq (hopefully arriving today), there are far more reports of people having success (and getting rid of the laggy throttle) than there are failure as best I can tell.

I've only read one case of total failure. These type of devices can be very touchy and if you don't follow the instructions precisely OR your ODBII port connection isn't good... it can just take a slight bump to trash your ECU.

In my opinion the simpler devices (procal, flashcal) are less likely to cause problems due to being simpler/easier to work with. I think the flashcal can be upgraded to flashpaq, haven't looked into that aspect (and maybe procal can as well?) just something to consider.

You might want to check the speedo with a known source (GPS) first. I went from stockers on my 14 jku to 33x12.50x15 and my speedo was within a 1/2 mph off.
I vote for the procal. Very easy to use.

X4 on the Procal. Mike and I both have one and like them.

I read one thread where there were reports of a couple of jeeps being bricked by the Flashpaq without satisfactory response from superchips, so I was too afraid to try their products. Just in my humble opinion...

I recently reviewed information here and elsewhere about 2014's with FlashPaq problems. As best I can tell there are 2 or 3 people that had problems and they are very vocal repeating the same vitriol over nearly every flashpaq thread to be found. It's one thing to point people to the already existing thread they could read about the issue(s) you had.. it's another to keep repeating the same thing over and over and over. Due to this others are repeating the chant, regardless of how many don't have a problem. This is a classic case of sampling bias.

In my experience (as a software engineer for 3+ decades) people often think they know what to do when things go wrong and this can very easily cause more problems. If you use one of these devices and anything odd happens, call the manufacturer immediately. Do not presume you know what to do, do no retry, do not reboot, etc.. Call support before you make a small problem into a bigger problem.

Like anything on the internet you'll need to make up your own mind. I chose to order a flashpaq and have had zero issues.

As someone who has a 2014 and Procal, I wouldn't recommend. And I really like AEV products.

Problem: when I set my tire size for actual size (34.25) rides great, accelerates great, downshifts great, everything feels awesome... But speedo is 2.5mph fast and that ratchets up the odometer. Set it to 33 to get the speedo right and the rest of the ride is sluggish.

AEV engineer says he's never heard of the problem. AEV sales rep says he's hearing about it frequently. Somebody isn't being forthright with information.

I have the same issue. I'll add one to it as well, and this goes for any programmer. You have to check and maybe even reprogram tires as they wear. I have 25k on my tires, and I just now caught my speedometer is off 2-3 mph. When I am seeing 70 mph on the dash, I'm going 67-68 depending on speedtrap meter. I don't know how long it's happened, but considering how many miles I drive each year, it does add up. I wish I would have checked it more often, but too late now. I had also noticed a lag since reprogramming. So I gave up some performance again.

If u have 4:10 gears and 33s then get neither...your gauge and mileage will barely be off...almost unnoticeable unless you have different gears, then go procal

ended up getting the flashcal mainly because of the user interface and the fact it does the same as the procal. Definite improvement correcting speedometer. I'm not having to peg it to 4000RPMS to get it over 60 going up a hill and gas mileage seems to have improved some. Thinking about updating it to a flashpaq to get some performance out of it.

I have the flashpaq and am very happy. Switched to the 91 tune yesterday and put a couple hundred miles on her and was very surprised to see my mileage increase. Also the throttle response is improved and it seems to handle the 35's better. Not one issue tuneing but I made sure I updated before installing any tunes.

Only problem was a neighbor stopped by a couple of weeks ago while I was installing the 87 tune and shut off the jeep because he thought I forgot and left it on. Took a hour and many beers but after resetting and starting over she came back to life. I don't think the neighbor will ever touch my stuff again after the reaction he caused. Thought I was going to have the dreaded bricked ECM.

WOW! That could have gone really really bad. I think the problems people have may be due to the many reboots/key on-off cycles necessary for an update. I could see someone not waiting for the flashpaq to reboot (and tell them to turn the key on..yet again ;-) and thinking it's done.

I'm looking for a flashpaq for my Fronty now.. hoping it'll change the shift points with the 'tow tune'.. it shifts up way too soon and too easily.

I bought a JKU Sport S over a year ago brand new and put 33's on about 6 months later. There may be a few mph different, but not enough for me to worry about. The GPS shows I'm within about 1.5 to 2 mph of the speedo. Speedos aren't that accurate anyways. I'd recommend doing nothing.

I just got a 2014 JKU a month ago and I install a set of MT classic II wheels with Nitto terra graper, Would I just borrow the procal to calibrate or it's something that have to be pluge in all the time?
My Jeep feels very heavy with I understand but the shift points is way out.
Thanks.
