New vs. Old

I just got a 2013 Black Wrangler Sport with Bluetooth and Tow Package. However, after reading several posts, it seems like a lot of people are buying used ones. I love my Jeep so far, but am just wondering was it something that should be bought new off the market or purchase used. Pro and cons anyone?

I get the opposite feeling...many people are buying new. Jeep has been breaking record after record for Wrangler sales.

Buying a used Wrangler is a big mistake. The resale on these things are phenomenal, which is good or the owners, but bad for the buyers. You can buy a new 2013 for almost the same price as a used 2012. Wranglers are the one vehicle I would never buy used, you made the right decision. Plus it's nice knowing she didn't lose her off road cherry yet!

If you can afford to buy new and plan on keeping it long term, then new is the way to go.
When you purchased used, you really never know for sure how well it has been maintained and or abused. The exception would be if you personally new the seller.
If you had bought a used 2012, well some of them have cylinder head issues and water pump failures on the new 3.6 engine. The 2013s so far seem to be pretty bullet proof, but the long term verdict is still out on the 3.6.

I can see it both ways. The only reason I bought mine used is because I got such a good bargain on it, despite the fact that the resale is so high. Brand new my 2012 JK Sport, with all the options it had, would have had an MSRP of nearly 28,000. Even with a potential savings of 10% off MSRP, that would have only brought the price down to a bit over 25,000. Instead I got the Jeep used with only 12000 miles on it for $21,750 (private party sale), nearly fully loaded. And being a 2012, if anything is wrong with it, I still have plenty of time left under both bumper to bumper and engine warranties.

On the other hand, dealerships seem to think these vehicles are the equivalent to a pile of gold on their lot, and as such keep the prices extremely inflated. But when I compared a 2011 2-Door with no options at the dealer that they were selling for 22,900 to my 2012 fully loaded for over $1000 less, it was a no brainer. Had I not found that deal...yeah, I probably would have waited and saved up for a new one.

Agree, when you're able to find a good deal like this, it is difficult to pass. I got a 2012 JK Sport with 10000 miles on it for 5000$ less than a new one.

Assuming you paid several percent under invoice you did the right thing. I quickly eliminated the option of buying used after seeing nearly ever 2-3yr old model listed for a mere few grand below MSRP. It's pointless to pay say $2k less or for a used Jeep with 30k-50k miles and the warranty running close to the end.

Yeah, I ended up buying new because it made more sense. Unless I found a screaming deal (I came close on a 2012 Rubi about a year ago), new was just better for me because used Wrangler's hold their value so well.

Just from a $$$$ standpoint.

Affiliate pricing = paying 2-4% below invoice. (I was at 3.7% below invoice)
Chrysler Bonus cash = Another $500 off the back end (I was lucky enough to get bonus cash)
Customer loyalty/Military/other rebates = I didn't get any of those, but they are available for many.
0% financing for 36 months = Chrysler offered it on the 2012s' for most of the year.

Not to mention, getting exactly what options I wanted, and not wondering if he previous owner beat the crud out of it or babied it. Then again, if I found a good enough deal on a used one...I might take my chances.
