New vs. Used

What do you guys think? 2007-2008 vs. 2011-2012? Simplicity vs. more interior features. How do the models compare next to each other? Likes, dislikes?

In my area, it just seemed like a better value to buy new. I still can't believe what used 4 door JK's are selling for in my area.

They're pretty high used in the Jackson, MS, area as well. I personally am starting to think it's just going to be smarter financially to buy new. Though that leaves the question, 2011 or 2012? ha

I wouldn't stop looking for a new JK yet. I've been doing a lot of research on the reliability on the JKs and one thing that I keep seeing is the bad electric problems with them. If you look at the brand new JKs most of the changes are mainly buttons and switches, which are electrical. so because of this I am going to look at buying a 08 or 09 model.

Either way I'm sure you will be happy. Good luck.

I just bought a new 2011 last Monday since a used one was only going to be 4-5k less. The rates are good right now at 3.49%. Good luck!

That's the conclusion i came to last year also. If you can wait I would roll the dice and custom order a 2012. I just bought a miata for my daughter and after jerking around with a few @$$ clowns with used ones I remembered why i havent bought a used "non collector car" in over 20 years. I took the cash i was going to use to pay in full and borrowed the balance @3.49%. Brand new this way i know the history of the car. Too many unknowns when buying used "floods , hail, abuse, poor maintenance"

What exactly are you looking for? I just bought a new jk from Joe usry (I live in Madison). There's a really sharp looking all black 08 sahara on toyo open country at's sitting on a little used lot near the interaction of hwy 51 and rice Ed.

There's a really sharp looking all black 08 sahara sitting on a small used lot on the corner of hwy 51 and rice road. Go see Joe smiley and tell him Kevin smira sent you. Not sure what they want for it or how many miles are on it, but I just saw it the other day. I went new and just purchased an 11 jk from Joe usry. if you go there, ask for Robert Denton and tell him I sent you.

When you buy new you'll get a lower finance rate.Used is higher rate.If ya got a good amount of cash down payment with a good amount of shopping possibly pickup a good deal used, low miles with mods that someone payed big for.I would rather have a TJ.I found on recently low miles with about $4500 worth of modes.Payed trade in value witch is about $11k less than new.Not counting sales tax saving when registered.GOOD LUCK.It's all about what you want to spend.

I was struggling with the same decision a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't even considering new until I saw the price was only about 4k more than the used ones I was looking at.
Here were the main pros:
-better financing
-no worries about buying used (oil changes, ragged out, etc)
-warranty
-nicer interior, etc

Get a new one, not to sure how warranty's work on a used jk. When i have had problems with my 08' I just took it in and they fixed it for free. It has been in the shop 5 times since I have had it. 3 times for broken caps on the front u-joints, and the other 2 for transfer case linkage problems.

Alright guys, I'm going to Joe Usry to look at a blue '07 X either this week or next week. It looks clean on the website and the carfax says that it's only had 2 previous owners with no wrecks or anything. If I like it, I'll get it. If not, I guess I'll wait on the '12.

Jeep did a big interior spiff up for 2011, but as far as I know all the other pre-2011 changes (ie, 2007 to 2008, 2008 to 2009, etc) we're just incremental tinkers. So I think the answer is "no".

Do you like your '10, or would you rather have an '11? (talking about the interior here)

I prefer the pre-2011 interior. It's more "plasticy" and basic looking.

But that's just my view and I am, obviously, biased. Plenty of folks love the 2011 interior. And I don't dislike it--I just prefer the older style.

Right. That's the feeling I was having. Even though I don't own one, I've grown accustomed to the "basic" feeling interior of the Jeep Wrangler JK. Though, I could get used to the new one, it just seems off when looking at it compared to the original JK interior.

Good searching... in my area- the used one's were very pricey.. I ordered a 2011 back in later part of Sept.2010- the 2010's were getting far and few- for what I wanted- basically sport unlimited with black interior. ( like the mountain edition ) since the 2011's all come with black cloth, it worked out well for me..... The best part is the value holds strong!!!! so far no issues with the new 2011 interior, I also like the 07-10 one's as well..

I started looking at 08's ( everything clean and low miles it was not much more for a new 2010, and that is really what I wanted, but since I waited soo long, The price difference for a 2011 was about the same...
The dealers were not discounting the 2010's even with 2011's rolling on their lots... Which is a good things for all of us...

I'm not hating on JK's, I looooove 4 door wranglers lifted with some tires...they make me drool... but stick with the classics and get a CJ-7..6..5... just any CJ in general

Unless you like comfortable. Then go with the 2007

I'm starting to see '07 and '08 JKUs for under $20k. Which, if you wanted one, you could just buy new for a few thousand more. It's a hard choice. It really boils down to how long do I want to be in dept? haha

I over analyzed this exact question. Everything points to new. JKUs simply have too high of a resale value. Maybe the highest?

My dealer in IN is throwing in the lifetime power train warranty for no extra cost which sealed the deal for me. Ordered a 2012 Sahara.

How does the lifetime warranty work? Is that an option, is it from the dealer, or what? I remember a few years ago all jeeps/dodge/etc came with the lifetime warranty, but I thought that was gone.

I went used 07 with 40k on it . The reason was I wanted a few more options like power windows and door locks . Also got dual tops . The soft top was never even used by the previous owner . The used sahara was 17k compared to a new X for 21 ( no power options and only 1 top) I don't think I broke the dealer but I don't think 17k was too bad . So far 56k on jeep and lovin every mile

I was originally in the market for an older CJ, but I stopped at a dealer next to where I used to work one day at lunch and they said they were closing down in 60 days (back when Chrysler was in some desperate straits). They had 6 new Sahara's on the lot - all looked identical and even had the same sheet on them. I looked in the window on every one and one was mismarked - a MANUAL! I took it for a drive and the dealer told me that he couldn't give manual trannys away in this area, and besides, someone ordered that one and the financing fell through. With less than 30 days before closing I went back and it was still there in the same spot I'd left it untouched. Three of the others had gone, so I asked about it again - this time the price got dropped to 25 flat and I went home with it that day. I still want a CJ (my first and only other Jeep was a CJ-7), but I can wait while I have fun with this one.
