Newb questions....

I posted this in the welcome thread - I guess this is where I should have put it!

I'm closing in on the purchase of a Unlimited Rubicon - I'm very excited. I have a couple of questions and was hoping for a little insight from everyone.

1. 2010 Unlimited Rubicon with the following options: Leather, Dual Top, Trailer, Side Air Bags and Media Center for $35,750 - does that seem like a decent deal? The dealership I've been working with has been great and this is one they've located. I could care less about the Media Center and leather, but this is the best they can find in the color (black) I want.

2. This one has a 6-speed. I'm coming out if a BMW 335 w/ a 6-speed and my last couple of cars were manuals. I think I was leaning towards having an automatic, but could live with the 6-speed. What kind of info can you give me on the clutch and the shift points? Is it a pretty easy stick to drive? What is the clutch life like? Anyone with a 6-speed wishing they went auto?

Thanks again for the info. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Gratz on your purchase. Price seems reasonable to me. The auto vs manual thing is all about what you like, although some long time Jeepers seem to believe that an auto in a Jeep is sacrelige. It's funny that Black was a hard color to find, seems that it's the prodominate color around my neck of the woods.

My fiancee and I each have a 6-speed. I would NOT buy anything BUT stick. The 6-speed (for a truck, and especially for a Jeep) is great- smooth action, easy clutch engagement, etc. I do, however, recommend turning off the Hill Start Assist function- it makes you feel like a rank amateur getting going from a stop, especially when not on a hill. The procedure to turn it off is in the owner's manual. Save the $700+ and buy stick- you'll never regret it! Mark W.

I personally have not had an automatic in the last 6 vehicles I've bought and just plain do not like automatics.
The 6 speed is great, very smooth, very solid, but I just went from a 6 speed Acura TL to the Wrangler. It is a truck trans, much longer throw and you cannot speed shift it, don't try, not good for it.

Also reverse does not have a forward motion lock out, if you push too far to the right while trying to get to 6th, it will slid toward reverse and make grinding noise that will scare the crap out of you.

Yes - tow package. I was confused because I was calling myself trailer trash as I was reviewing the window sticker.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll be sticking with a 6-speed!!

It shouldn't be engaging if you aren't on a hill.

I have that same thing on my car now...nice to know you can turn it off on a hill.

I just need to figure out somewhere to store the hard top for the summer.

We are going to have 2 requirements of you when you purchase your new Jeep.

1.) Post pictures.

2.) Wave to all Wranglers and CJ's you see on the road.
