Question Newbe question: Other mods needed for lift?

I just bought a 2010 Unlimited Rubicon and wanted to know if any one knows what driveline and any other mods are needed if you do a 4" to 6" lift?

You will eventually need to consider a driveshaft if you are going that high. 4-6" is pretty extreme. Are you planning on 40" tires? You can fit 35's with 2.5" and will have far fewer issues. Other things to consider when adding larger tires are gear ratios.

Since this is your first post, I would reccomment spending some time and reading through the forum. There is tons of information on the subject available.

Yea 4-6 inches is pretty tall for a JK unless you plan on running 37" tires or better. Incase you were you would need a very "complete" suspension kit. On top of coils, shocks, you will also need adjustable control arms, front and rear track bars, driveshafts to reduce any vibration and cure any rubbing issues.

Newbe question: Other mods needed for lift?

Yea, I was looking a the Fabtech 5" Rock Crawler system. What do you guys think about that? Is that fairly complete system? I want to run 35" tires with a good amount of fender clearance. I have a certain look I am trying to go for. Here is a link. I want different rims but I like the balance between fender clearance and 35" tire.

Not 40's but I want to run 35's. What about a slip yoke eliminator? Is that required?

JK's do not have a slip yoke. You should be prepared for numerous drive train issues at that height. The stock CV boot driveshaft will rub and eventually tear. The entire shaft should be replaced. You will need a programmer to adjust for the tire size and you will have to re-gear. There have also been many reported issues with esp and other electronics. You will also effectively void any powertrain warranty.

Do you plan on wheeling it or are you just interested in the "look".

Yea, I dont want to have more problems than its worth. I am sure that 08 Unlimited Rubicon in the autotrader link can hold it own on the trail but it looks killer also. Is it possible to have the best of both worlds?

Exactly. It can be done, but unless you spend the money upfront to do it right, you will be spending it on the back end fixing all the issues.

I hear you. I will want to spend around $4,000.00 with install for the lift and the other mods that need to go along with it. Does that sound right or am I way off?

Just remember your projected spending of 4k will go right out the window once you start adding in other things that need to go along to compensate for the lift. All the little things add up.
Be ready to def swap out that front shaft if your going over 3"...and plan on getting new wheels with backspacing or get some spydertrax spacers and you can keep the stock wheels.
