Newbie!! Help with the sof top!

I just bought my first Jeep. A new Wrangler Unlimited. Absolutely love it!!
What is the trick to putting the soft top up and down? Is there an easy way to do this? I managed to get it down ok for the first time yesterday, but putting it back up last night was a major pain for one person! Any tricks or advice?

Thanks!

No real tricks to it. It just takes practice. It will get faster and easier the more you do it......

Ok, now that I think about it, there is one trick I learned, lock the pins in before you lock down the header and before you secure the back pieces. Remember to make sure that the floating top bar is seated properly on the side bars or it will make lots of strange noises.

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry, I thought we were talking LJs (2004-2006). I have no experience with the new JKs.

Thumbs up Soft Top

I also have my first Jeep, I have the JK but the two door X. Like it was said before dont look any othr part of the top in place till after you lock the front in, then you can pull down on the back bar to get the back corners into place.

Question to any of you with the softop JK's. The roll bar padding on the driver side. Do you have two cut outs for the door surrounds in the padding?

Brandi: I have an 05 TJ and it came with a video showing how to put the soft top up and down. Watched it a couple of times and the job got easier and quicker every time. I think the top stretches a little with age and use.

Oh yeah, putting the top back up can be a little tough solo. I watched some videos first. My main trick is that i open up the back, crawl in, then toss the whole top forward. This way I can at least catch the front latches first thing. Just check out some videos, and you should be set with a little practice!

lift each site up and place each site on the track behind rear door as usual. Then hop up on door sill or/step and slide forward and lock in place.

when taking it down, fold back sun rider top, unlock from each side and just rest the arm on top of the bracket. then just lift it up and lay it down.

the biggest challenge i have is just being careful not to pinch your fingers!

I have it down to a science, both up and down.

Down I fold back into sunrider position first, including doing the Z flap method. Then unlatch both side latches. Then open the tailgate and and grab the top towards the rear, flipping the forward most frame rails (sunrider fold knuckles) up towards the sky (stops them from banging into the rear portion of the plastic door surrounds and the padded roll bar) and pull back the entire thing down onto the tailgate (frame rail knuckles etc. are still pointed to the sky) then lower the frame rail (knuckles) down into the tub on the outside of the roll bars. It should all sit nicely.

For up, I stand on the bumper and grab the main part of the top and start raising it up where it should almost sit on the rollbars, again rasing the frame rail section with the knuckels towards the sky. Then lower and push forward the frame sections with the knuckles and lay them on the door surround tracks and push the knuckles into the latch mechanisms and lock. From there it's easy. Latch the footman loop hooks and then connect the rear sail panels.

I can do both up and down by myself and in just a minute or two....however disclaimer...I'm pretty tall with long arms so that helps on the raising up.
