Newbie Here

Hello all,

I'm new to the Jeep world. I've been lurking here for a couple months. I've learned so much from you guys in a short time. Looking forward to learning more and making new friends.

Thinking about popping on the Warn M8000 winch that's on 4wd.com...they have it for $539 plus a free wireless remote and free shipping. This seems like a good deal...anyone have any thoughts?

I'm also saving up for the Ripp Supercharger. With 33's and 3.21 gears...the jeep feels waaay under powered. Also thought about going the air induction\chip\new gear route, but i keep going back to the Supercharger. I've read good things about the setup. Anyone have anything bad to say? (except for cost, of course)

Steve

Welcome.

This thread has a bunch of yack about air intakes/exhausts/chips/superchargers etc. and you should probably read it over. (It's also got some snarkiness going on between members about the upcoming Wrangler engine, but ignore that. )

The bottom line is that nothing will even approach the Ripp. That's going to put over 100 more hp at your wheels. Regearing would be next on the list in terms of realizable power, but it sure isn't going to be anywhere near 100 hp. Then you've got the intakes/exhausts/etc. etc., which may--it's endlessly debated--add just a handful of ponies. The only caveat to all that is if you've got an auto transmission, in which case a superchip flashpaq is indeed a good idea.

Welcome aboard!

While your at it what rims are those and in what size to be exact? I'm having a major wheel-tire crisis and like the way that set up looks. DO you rub?

Great looking Jeep. I was also thinking about the warn winch. That seems like a pretty good deal. I don't think I would pay $125 or whatever they want for the wireless remote, but to get it for free is a nice bonus.

I don't know anything about the superchargers...and this is probably obvious but you might consider warranty issues.

My expectation would be that a supercharger pretty much tosses any powertrain warranty. Maybe some other stuff too.

Welcome!

I have a Warn M8000 winch. Great choice. Never seen the wireless remote; just snake the cable along the side of the jeep and into the cab. Hard to beat free though.

One of the guys in the club has a RIPP and it really helps in krawling. He just powers through things and makes it look easy.

Thanks. It’s the Warn rock crawler front bumper. I also have the rock crawler on the back with the tire carrier. The bumpers were already on the Jeep when I bought it, but I really like the looks(especially once I get the winch and bar on the front).

The rims are 17” Procomp series 7089 with 33 x 12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja MTX tires. So far no rubbing, but to be honest, I have not had the Jeep off road yet (I've only had it for a couple months). It didn't appear that the guy who had it before me ever had it off road either. Hoping to go to Interlake ORV in the next few weeks to play a little. I'll update you later.

Pretty sure I'm going with the RIPP, just need to save the $$ for it. I've thought about the warranty, but dang, I think the benefits are worth the risks.
