Question Newbie Question - Unidentified Item

Just brought my new '14 Wrangler Sport JK home on Saturday and I'm really enjoying learning all the ins and outs of my first Jeep. But there's this one piece that I don't find in the sparse manual and haven't figured out what this little item beneath and to the left of the steering column is for.

Could somebody please clue a rank novice in on this?

I have an '08 and there's nothing like that on mine. Could it be the fog lights up front or any auxiliary lights? Is it new, or used?

never seen that before... Looks like a switch for something? Is there anything added onto the Jeep? Remote start, lights etc?

Is there a flashing LED on when the Jeep is lockedup?

That one piqued my interest. I just went and checked out my new 14 JKU and its got nothing like that. Was yours a brand new purchase?

I would try following the wires underneath the dash to see if you can determine where they go or if it goes into through the firewall into the engine area. You can pull that plastic covering off as well to the right of the switch below the steering column. It just snaps in and out.

Kill switch maybe? I hate the stupid little manual you get with things now. You figure that when you by a multi thousand dollar piece of equipment it would come the a thick owners manual. You have to call Jeeps support to get a free 600+ page manual; just give them your VIN, it's free. I think you can download the PDF online also.

Its not gonna be in the manual. Is aftermarket for sure. We just need the OP to follow where the wires go.

Mopar EVTS, dealer should have given you activation instructions.

This. It's an aftermarket security system. Talk to your dealer.

It's the self-destruct button. Once activated you have 1 minute to cancel before the Jeep goes thermonuclear...

I have almost the exact same thing in my 2013 JKU Sahara that I bought slightly used. I'm not near my jeep but it's in a similar if not exact same location and but I think the rubber "button" part has a different design in white, mine is "#". My jeep came with a Viper Alarm/Remote start system so I'm pretty sure it's after market and has to do with that.

My friends a mechanic at a jeep dealership here in GA and he said they will add switches to the left side close to the wheel for 2 reason, either a viper proximity sensor alarm or a kill switch if a rubicon they custom built... Now that's one shop. I'm sure it could be anything else.... Very curious to find out. It all comes down to the OP tracing the wires.

My '13 has it. Dealer installed Mopar EVTS (electronic vehicle tracking system) as has been mentioned already. I did not pay for it so I'm not sure if mine is activated or not.

Yeah, I stopped by the dealership yesterday and asked my salesman. They had forgotten to give me the EVTS Customer Delivery Kit packet.

Mystery solved.

Thanks!
