Newbie with an obvious question

I just purchased a 2013 Sahara Unlimited 6spd manual on Monday. So far I am loving it. I haven't attempted to take off the full hard top and install the soft one yet, that is for this weekend.

One thing I noticed that I thought odd is that this thing didn't come with wheel locks. Most notably for the spare. Is that common? Isn't it a no brainer to get wheel locks?

Thanks in advance for your help.

BTW I am in Rockland County NY just north of NNJ border.

PS first attempt at including a pic so apologies if it doesnt work.

Jeep doesn't include them, but some dealers do. McGard and Gorilla are the two brands I'd go w/. My Rugged Ridge wheel locks suck.

Dealer puts them on all jeeps on the lot. He said they do it due to past theft.

Check out Mopar's wheel locks. Not too expensive and have good reviews.

Any parts store will have compatible wheel locks. You can order them from just about anywhere as well.

You can get a set of 5 from Quadratec too. I run three different security lugs on my spare and it has already thwarted a couple theft attempts.

MOPAR 82211405 - MOPAR® 5 Piece Factory Wheel Lock Kit - Quadratec

I have these along with a a few others.

Actually, lug locks ARE put on at the factory, if the order calls for them.... I believe it's a dealer's choice item, but don't really know why some get them from the factory and some don't.

It is true that lots of dealers put them on themselves.....

Here's a copy of my Jeep's "Final Station" work sheet with the lug lock option highlighted:

I believe the size is 1/2x20. I got a set of Gorilla locks for $20. Be sure to get a 5 lock set, all the local stores carried were 4 lug sets. It only took 4 days to have them shipped to me.

Thanks all. It seemed crazy to not include them. My wife just got a new Kia and it came with wheel locks.

BTW I just found these (that you linked to) on Amazon for $40, ($10 cheaper than Quadratec ) and I get free shipping with Amazon. I just ordered.

Again thanks all.

Awesome - You get a Wrangler and the wife gets a Kia. She does know that she got the raw end of that deal, right?

Unless you figure in the 10 year warranty and no mods or upgrades to the Kia.

Aw hell, that just leaves more for your upgrades!

Congrats and welcome!

Some Chrysler products come with them. All Rams with 20" wheels come with wheels locks, but im not sure about other vehicles like chargers or 300s. I put wheel lock on for all my customers, especially wranglers because the spare wouldn't take but 3 minutes to pop off for a crook.

I have the MOPAR wheel locks...a bit of a disappointment if you ask me.

They are not even close to the same size as the non-locking lugs and stick out considerably.

Also, I got mine in December and the finish on them has not held up as well as the regular lugs either.

Hey man i grew up in rockland (pomona) and had numerous vehicles without wheel locks and never really had a worry. And im talking like 500 a piece wheels lol. Most guys that make a hobby out of stealing rims carry the key pieces anyways. If they want it theyll get it. The only thing those locks will do is keep you from changing a tire when you misplace it. Just my opinion though no one flame me please lmao
