Newbie with newbie questions

Hello All,

I am brand new to the whole Jeep scene. My wife and I just bought a new Wrangler Unl. Sahara (Black on Black). I would appreciate some input on two questions:
1) We'd like to upgrade wheels and tires without making any mods to suspension or speedo problems (my wife will be driving it to work). Looking for a black wheel and a more "Jeep Appropriate" tire... Can you show us some pics and give us the sizes/backspacing, etc?
2) Since we're new, are there any "must have" mods we should think about? We did get the upgraded stereo with the sub in the back, but otherwise she is a blank canvas.
Thanks in advance for your help...

I am new as well, and have found lots of information by using the search function. You can then ask more specific questions after you've researched your question.

You will also find a lot of info on tires and wheels in the tires and wheels section.

Welcome, good luck and have fun.

Help With Picking New Wheels/Rims

Nice color choice.

Smaller rims will save you $$ both short-term and long-term. 15's are a popular size with those on the forum. Check w/forum vendors (PM them) for prices. They'll price-match, and will often give you free shipping. They'll also tell you if the rims will fit over your Jeep's brake calipers. You'll want backspacing around 4.5 inches to prevent rubbing issues.

If you go to 33" tires, your speedo will be slightly off (and your shift points if you bought an auto, which may also affect the Jeep's ESC).

AEV sells a product you can plug into your Jeep's OBDII port (underside of dash, near your left driver's side foot) to correct this, and adjust other things should you decide to mod your Jeep further in the future.

Here's a link to the AEV:

Well depending on how much coin you want to drop, you can start with a set of Rubicon take offs and paint the wheels black. The BFG KM M/T that come stock on the Rubicon aren't that expensive so you could mate those with some type of black rim. I'm partial to the Mickey Thomson Classic, but AEV makes the Savegre and now the Pintler in black. The AEV wheels will keep the tire inside the fender.

I agree, get some Rubi take-offs and paint the wheels black. (obviously mine are not take-offs, but this will give you an idea of what they look like.)
