Niagara Falls to Orlando Florida

Hi everyone,

The family will be taking a trip from Niagara Falls Canada to Orlando Florida during march break 2011 in our new 2010 JKU.

It is 1,700km each way. Should be fun. The Jeep drives and rides great!!!

Anything to keep in mind before, during or after the trip with the Jeep?

Should be a pretty straight forward trip, fill up with gas, drive, fill up with gas etc. lol!!!

Thanks for any input.

OIIIIIIIO

Hey you ever wheel the mud & 20? I'm from Toronto and going to be hitting the runs down there soon.

Sounds like it will be a fun trip! Maybe one day I'll be able to do something similar (but in the other direction ).

So if you're coming down in March, I have a suggestion which may or may not be useful to you, and it's unrelated to Jeeps.

The final NASA space shuttle launch is tentatively scheduled for February 27th, but delays due to weather or last-minute launch issues are somewhat routine. Keep an eye on the launch schedule -- you might get lucky and have a launch while you're in town. On a clear day you can see them from Orlando, but if you have the time it's better to drive out to Cape Canaveral or the surrounding areas.

I've done that drive... twice! It's pretty boring until you get into the mountains

As for the shuttle launch, you should definitely catch it if you can Cottageman, preferrably from somewhere on the coast (Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne, etc). ESPECIALLY if you've never seen one before. Breathtaking.

I was here for the first shuttle launch & intend to see the last.

Speaking of filling up the gas, be careful topping it off. They have a tendency to overflow. There's a whole thread on here about it.

Cottage wont see DC or get near it I expect.. Shouldn't hit 95 till he gets to SC where 26 runs into 95..

I've made the drive many times myself as well.. I'm from WNY and Just moved back for a Job.. The mountains are fun, Some sections will keep you on your toes at times.. Have fun with the drive

Agreed, he shouldnt hit DC traffic unless he's taken a seriously crap route.

It's actually not a bad drive if you stay a bit west, like knight said, not seeing 95 till SC.

Dear god...just the thought of being stuck in washington traffic with a manual transmission....shiver

When you get to the Orlando area, make sure you have lots of American change or small denomination bills for all the damn toll roads you will need to use down here to get anywhere quickly..

One word: AutoTrain. In Lorton, VA I toss them the keys and head for the club car...Happy Hour, dinner (tablecloths, waiters, menus), Lounge car, movie, they make up your bed, wake up with just time for breakfast, they bring you your car and you're a few minutes from downtown Orlando! No white knuckles, no fatigue, no worrying about "what if's" (the car breaks down in GA), no traffic. I'd rather drink/eat/drink/sleep, and wake up there (with the car intact). Leaves Lorton, VA approx 3-4:00/ arrive Orlando approx 8-9:00 next morning).

Do it all the time and just got back...Orlando is empty first half of Nov. NO LINES what-so-ever in any park. Sunny 82 no rain. I'm not that close to my sister (LOL), so we get two bedrooms both ways and stretch out with privacy...very relaxing. Driving on 95 South = the opposite. And trying to navigate the Beltway around DC!?!?!? Forgetaboutit. Could take hours. I live there in the MD 'burbs and the Beltway is a standstill parking lot most all the time.
