I'm going to finally replace my OEM KMs on my 2015 Willys JK (w/MOPAR 2"lift) with some 285/75 17 tires. I've narrowed it down to Nitto Ridge Grappler and Falken A/T3W. Both seem to be great tires. I'm leaning toward the Nitto, but for a set of 5 I get the Falken for $300 less ($192 vs $252). Are the Nittos worth the extra dollars?
Give the Falken a serious look just because it is more affordable does not mean it's cheap. I run them and love how they handle in wet and dry conditions (don't get snow or ice on the roads here but they are rated for snow).
Have you had the Falkens and were they significantly worse than the Nittos? Seems there are positives for both tires so I'd say it is actually pretty close...
My Nitto Ridge Grapplers have become my favorite tires!!!
Smooth riding and very quiet, in fact I don't hear any noise from them. They balanced out at about 2 ounces each. I have already driven on rocky dirt wash board roads. Heavy rain on the highway..they are awesome. No experience in the snow..so don't know.
I run the Nitto Ridge Grappler 295/70R17 10Ply and love them. Discount Tire paid $234.00 per tire plus Mounting and Lifetime Rotation/Spin Bal/Repair. 5 Tires OTD $1300.00
That's one of the factors I've been looking at and the best I can find is they're nearly the same. The Falken with E rating is 65.5 lbs and all I can find fir the Nitto is both the C and E rated tires are 65.
I would suggest the Nittos! I ran these for a while before I upgraded and they were great to me. I enjoyed the ride on them as they were quieter then most and ran smoothly on the highway. Sometimes paying more pays off!
My vote is for the Falkens. Put them on my truck in September and so far they have been amazing in the snow, sand, and shallow mud. Tires look great and are quieter than the BFG AT on the highway. Couldn't ask for more esp factoring in price and weight. After 9k miles I'm sure I can get the warrantied 55k
Unless we sell it, they will be going on my TJ over the summer
My local shop has great things to say about both tires, he preferred the ridge grapplers however both are quality tires
Hard to say which is the best direction, both should be a huge step up from oem. I will be crossing this bridge probably in march when my wheels arrive. I am leaning towards the ridge grapplers
Thanks for all the replies folks. Lots of good advice. I'm going to order the Nittos. I was already planning on getting those when I found out about the Falkens. I don't think I could go wrong with either. What tilts it toward the Nittos are their mounted height seems to be very close to their spec height and the C load rating available. Also, even though they are both "hybrid" tires it appears the Nittos lean toward M/T and the Falkens lean toward A/T. Down here in the south I have to deal with more wet and mud. If I was up in the northern climes I would get toward the Falkens as they are reported great in snow and ice.
I hope to get them next week. I'll post some pics when I get them on.
I would run the Nitto Ridge Grappler over the Falkens. I have 35" Ridge Grapplers and they are a great tire that ride well in all conditions. I am in the Northeast and have run them in all kinds of weather and they perform great. They also looks pretty rugged...
