Hi group I been tire shopping this week and Iam stuck between the nitto terra grappler g2 285/79/17
And the BFG all terrain k02 285/70/17
I will be putting them on my stock 17in dark grey freedom rims.
Looking for best of both worlds. Look and ride comfort / noise. Any Input ?
Thanks for any info.
Had these for almost 1000 miles. Way more quiet than the factory KMs and still nasty looking. Based on the history of the original KO, these are supposed to last longer on pavement and gravel roads. I think that should far surpass milage on the Nittos.
Instead of the trail grapplers g2, look into their counterpart Toyo's AT2.
I have the KO2's, but I prefer the toyos due to their looks, and quietness. The KO2's are quiet, but the toyos are silent.
If you are dead set on these two options my preference would be to buy Nittos. I had both on my Silverado (I know not a Jeep), but I have to say that the Nittos were the best riding tire I had on that truck. I like the look, the ride, and the "sipes" of the Nittos. Just seemed to be a bit more stable on the wet roads. Not to mention the Nittos were approximately less than 75% the cost of the KO2s.
The terrain grapplers were my first tires, I keep them around for long road trips now, but most of the time run Treadwright Guard Dogs for half the $$$., never any issues.
Nitto does make most of the grapplers in a 75 height if you are looking at LTs.
The Toyo ATII is a much better comparison for the KO2. Both are outstanding tires. In that size, the Duratrac is also really good, but quite a bit more $$.
I have KO2'S and would recommend them. There is a big difference between the KO & KO2s. I hope the people here comparing the two have had experience with the latter as they are kinda new to market.
My apologies... I suppose I ran the KO not the KO2. But isn't the KO2 the improved version of the KO, similar to how the G2 is the improved Terra Grappler? I would find it hard to believe that BF Goodrich managed to squeeze 20,000 more miles into a tire that is very similar to the KO.
I've read that the KO2 has superior sidewall protection. If you're often in situations like that then the KO2 is your tire. My jeep will spend 80% of its life on the pavement and the off-roading that it will face can be easily handled by the G2.
Hope this is helpful. I apologize for the initial statement about running KO2's for 60K miles. It was definitely the KO.
@JL1991 my goal was over 50k miles on the KO2 since BFG doesn't give you a specified amount of tread life just like the others. Since the KO's got you over 60k... you just made my day!!! thanks.
dawhitesJKU- are there things you don't like about your KO2s? I don't care much about tread wear in the sense that grip on wet/snow and Moab rocks and Colorado trails are much more important. If a tires does all that, I'll live with 30,000 miles happily.
I love my MTRs off road (light too) and they are kinda decent on road- especially for MTs but am looking for a tough AT that is decently light and does well off road too. I have DuraTracs on my 4Runner but will not run a thin sidewall like that on the JKU that I take off road a lot, so DTs are out. I can't do Toyos or Nitto MTs due to the weight. The KO2 looks good and if I have to, I may go back to new MTRs but I am looking for options that are not too heavy yet do well in snow.
@HK_Runner ... no I love it. There's a very slight audible tone if you try and listen carefully when driving around 10-15mph near a wall. Its perhaps due to an echo. Not loud, but noticeable ONLY if you pay attention.
I get great gas mileage on the 35" KO2's as opposed to my previous OEM km tires. It just rolls way better than those mud terrains.
The sidewalls are phenomenal (I suggest you take a look at the BFG website puncture test). I've had a sidewall puncture before and for those that ever had the same experience, the next wheeling event is pretty tough since tires are always on your mind.. it did exhaust me trying to focus on "will I get a puncture if I go here/there".
These tires are a definite win.
That is really good to know...thanks!! I just hope it does not let me down off road on Ouray or Moab or these variable-condition Colorado trails. This has become my #1 choice now. I hate mud (who wants mud when you have a few hundred miles of amazing trails) so these will not see much of that I hope. My MTRs are getting louder and louder as they wear.
I just think I will upgrade to 37s since they are solid 35s. If I get any minor rubbing at full lock or stuff (these 37s are an inch taller than my MTRs) I may have to make some minor changes.
One of the reasons I always purchase all terrains. I hate mud and I try to avoid it as much as I can especially when aired down. Small mud puddles here and there are ok, but otherwise, i'm not for it.
I see your point. I will give these a shot. Worst case, I can sell them and go back to the MTRs but I bet they will be just fine. Thanks again!
