Hello, new to the forum and soon first time Jeep owner. I'll be picking up a brand new JKU Sport within the next couple of weeks. I'll be putting on a 3" TF lift and 35" Terra grappler tires. My question and main concern is how loud are they. I read many reviews and threads and some say that they are surprisingly quiet and others say that they're a bit noisy. I guess it depends on the person, but if I'm cruising at 70 mph with the soft top on what will be louder the tires or the wind. What if I take the top down, will I hear the hum from the tires? I don't know what to expect and I don't want them to be a conversation breaker. Any input would be helpful.

I have Trail Grapplers. What will you use your Jeep for? They are a great rock crawling tire, but would not be my first choice on a mostly street rig. They are heavy, aggressive tread and strong sidewall.

I agree they are not noisey, but again if you want a mostly street tire - there are better choices.

It will mostly be a street rig but not a daily commuter. I just want that aggressive look. My second choice are either Duratracs or Nitto Exo Grapplers, still good looking but maybe better for my needs. Anyone can compare any of these? I know Exo are fairly new but any input would help.

I've had both
Duratracs are overall a good tire and quiet
Trail grapplers are louder but in my option look nicer

37" Trail Grapplers here. I wouldn't want any other tire, or I would have purchased them. I go 85 on the freeway regularly and it's not annoying or too noisy at all. Is there hum? Yep, but it doesn't drown things out.

Normally someone that hasn't had a mud tire before will think the tires are loud.

That is all they have to go on.

These aren't even close to loud, but you will notice them if you don't have a reference to compare them to.

If you but from a Discount Tire Store, you can return them and change to something else if you don't like them.

Ask about the requirements as you don't want any surprises.

I tried a set of MTR's and didn't like them for my use. They swapped them out for the TG and discounted the price as well, no questions.

Just some thoughts for you to consider.

I had 35" Trail Grapplers on my first Jeep. The noise was minimal until about 15,000 miles on them. I hit the first wear bar and that's when I started to notice some hum. I find the stock tires on my current Rubicon to be louder than the Nittos. A great tire, great traction and great ride for a DD.

I have the 305/70/17 Terra Grappler G2 (G2 have just be redesigned and have a treadwear warranty ).

I love them so far. I had them on my last Jeep as well and never had any issues. They are quiet but still have an aggressive tread pattern.

Would you mind posting a pic?

Always ran BFG Mud terrains on my TJ. Put Trail Grapplers on my JK. Have 8K miles on them and I would say they are a lot quieter than the BFGs (but JK is a lot quieter than the TJ). They may get nosier after they wear more but so far I am very happy with them. At this point I would buy them again over the BFGs.

I drive pretty fast and can't say they get much noisier if any with higher speeds.

Toyo and Nitto are made by the same company. My wife runs the open country MTs and I run the trail grapplers. They both are quieter than most other MTs I've ran. Like mommy mall crawler says they are heavy, but it is nice having thicker sidewalls in the rocks. I used to only run BFG tires but after running these its going to be hard to go back.

I've had terra and trails, I prefer the trails by far. When I move away from my 35s I'll be sticking with 37 or 38" trail grapplers.

I have the Trail Grabbers 295/70R18 and I don't find them loud at all at 60 to 70 MPH.

Wow Imho you should think about doing something with that spare tire, that thing is just hanging out back there and thats a lot of leverage!. extend the bumps at the very least!

I have run the Terra Grapplers, Trail Grapplers and now are on Duratracs. All are great tires. Terra Graps are nice on the road and decent in moderate offroad but aren't as aggressive looking as it sounds like you want. The Trail Graps are also great tires-BUT if you are using for street use mostly, you might want to consider how heavy they are-therefore gearing could play a role in this decision. I think if you are predominantly using on the street, you may want to consider the GY Duratracs. They are much lighter than a comparable size Trail Grap and have a nice aggressive look as well (Trail Graps look a little better IMO-but the weight is a big factor) A 35" Nitto Trail Grap is 79 LBS and a similar size Duratrac is 60 LBS and a GY MTR is 63 LBS. Thats a huge difference in unsprung weight. If you are going to run a full size spare, that is 20 LBS a tire and a total of 80 LBS unsprung and an additional 20 LBS for the spare that your Jeep is pushing. With the stock spare tire mount rated at around 80 LBS, with Nittos the tire alone is hitting the rated max weight. So a new spare mount may come into play for you. You may also want to consider the load rating on the tires. An E rated tire is going to rattle your teeth and kidneys more than a C or D rated tire will. Just some food for thought...hope it helps.
