If you are crazy enough to get it to the loading ramp, I would use 4lo on the ramp.

I had this question myself...asked it in another thread and found a lot of guys pulling 16-18 footers without a problem...but the answers I'm seeing here suggest its not a good idea. I don't have another vehicle/truck to use and by next spring/summer I was planning on getting a boat for double duty skiing and fishing.

Since what I would get as a first boat would be used I have no idea how to find typical weights for boat and trailers...figured I should be able to find them at or under 3500lbs, but this thread is making me second guess that.

I don't know anything about boats but have you had it on a scale? 2500 for the trailer alone seems high. My race car has a all steel big block and it only weighs 2000 and that might be with me in it.

4500 lbs total gross..?? That is not bad..!!! Then the Trailer tongue capacity should be way less...

They tow more than advertised.. Pulling is not the issue its stopping thats the problem, but with proper brakes on the trailer I dont see why they cant tow 5K lbs..

This is a pic on the Jeep WebSite..

The trailer in this pic has to weigh 1500lbs minimum, and the Jeep another 2500lbs minimum? probably more like 3000lbs..

My father used to pull a 22 foot criss craft with his 79 T-Bird and 4 kids in the back seat. The Tbird probably had 7 feet more length than a JK though. YMMV.

Nice, it looks like the tongue weight worked out well. How was the ride to the lake?

Nice and smooth... Better than my brother's 2004 F150...

Of course I drove back roads... Top speed.- 70 kms/hr... With my emergency lights on ALL THE TIME...

Backing up on the ramp with 4low... Lot of power...!!!

I tow just fine...Much smaller boat though. Actually it feels the same as not towing to be quite honest. Any heavier boat though, I would probably Marina it.
