Noise when lifting off brakes

After coming to a stop at a stop sign with the brakes fully engaged, I lift my foot off the pedal to move forward and I hear a whining noise coming from the breaks. This has happened for a few weeks now and it is starting to get on my nerves. Any thoughts?

It's a 2012 JKS.

You may need to replace your brake pads. That would be my gut reaction.

I just had service done a couple of weeks ago and the pads were good. I didn't think about bringing up the noise then.

Is it only when the wheels are spinning or does it do it if you are in neutral and not rolling and you release the breaks? I am not sure.

I have definitely noticed that my 2014 JK has some weird groans when starting from stop and haven't gone into the dealer to have them look at it yet.

I have an Automatic. I can be in any gear; park, reverse, neutral. If I press down then let off the brake. It almost sounds like the noise trucks with air brakes sounds like when they let off the brake.

I know about the groans. I am used to that. This is when I quickly let off the brake.

Bump. I haven't had the time to take it by the dealership. Anyone know what it might be?

Not to derail the thread but the groans I describe in my previous post are common and I shouldn't worry about them?

I had that for the first 20k miles or so. From what I have seen on here it is very common.

Edit: At least on the 2012's

The groans are normal. Happens in a lot of vehicles. My assumption is that the brake pads are barley pressed against the rotors and allows for some movement.

OP, I would take it to the dealer. Especially if it happens when you're not moving.
