I have a 5x8 utility trailer that I need to put decking on. It has a steel mesh bottom. I'm wondering what wood to use?

Mainly just hauling landscaping stuff, dirt, rocks, gravel.
Could forsee furniture.

Was thinking of using regular 1x6. Everything I'm reading says 2x6 or 8, 10. From what I've read treated lumber is really heavy and a sealant will be fine.

2x seems like overkill and more weight than desired.

Do you all think 1x6 is too thin even w mesh bottom?

I just redecked mine and I used 2x10 P.T. lumber BUT I have no mesh bottom (neither does my trailer) and mine is fairly Large (trailer too) ...

Perhaps Five Quarter would be a nice compromise product.

Just watched a guy on YT w the same trailer as mine and he used 3/4" rough cut oak.

Rough cut is in all liklihood "real" dimension -vs- the fake crap we endure these days from lumber yards.
If you have access to it and the price is right......:)

If not then I think the five quarter is sufficient with the mesh underlayment.
As far as P.T. - It does last longer but still requires maintenance in order to last.
