Took my jk out in soft sand today. Did real well. Did dig a 3 foot whole and got pulled out by a bronco. Head on desk. Shows me right for not airing down

If you never get stuck, you'll never learn how not to get stuck, or how to get out. Cut the man some slack, he came here honestly asking for advice and admitting his mistake.

Airing down to increase surface contact has always been rule #1 for off-road on about any surface. I learned it from the WWII Army jeep operators manuals in the '60s. Still got stuck, though. If you never get stuck, you don't know what your rig and you can do, and how you can improve your skills.

Show me a Jeep driver who has never been stuck, and I'll show you a true noob/poseur.

OP, I got stuck in OBX my first time out, it happens.

I did the same thing. Hit soft sand and forgot to get into gear in my stock JKU.

Had to air down to 20 PSI and got out without a tow once I remembered to shift to 4, but it was funny seeing my friends with their push button 4WDs whiz by me in my Jeep. Had a good laugh about it and could not stop but help hearing my wife laughing at me. It happens.

Lee,

Great lesson learned. I did the same thing with my KTM in sand a few years back. I was running too much air in the tires and had some of the other ADV riders looking at my zig-zagging all over the place on the verge of crashing:-)

Great post.

your from Texas and he/she is from NY lol

I have respect for anyone that admits their mistakes. Everybody is a NEWB to start.
and probably lie if they never gotten their jeep stuck at one point.

When I owned my Tj, I was showing off at work, Through it in four wheel drive and gunned it up a snow bank. High centered myself in front of everybody to see. 75 people out back watching a f150 pull me down talk about embarrassing.

Love the wheels' look - are those stock tires on them? I can't figure out how to zoom into the pic.
Altho I haven't gotten mine stuck yet, I'm sure it's only a matter of time. My other 4X's are much heavier and they stick easily if not aired down - so I'm sure I'll think I can go anywhere without airing down and that will be my demise! But yes, been there and done that (getting stuck) - but I am not always so lucky to have someone to pull me out, and have the blisters on my hands from shoveling my way out to prove it!
Have fun in that thing!

KJeeper10,

I just got my lockers installed on my TJ and decided to run in the really deep mud got stuck up to my frame, but I had a ball until I got stuck, had a Toyota pull me out he had no lockers and yes I had aired down I just came off the gas in the wrong spot and sunk.

It's all in fun getting stuck and getting pulled out or having to pull someone out glad to oblige, no one takes tally and if they are there sitting on the side with their clean rigs you know the 4x4s I’m talking about. But it sucks getting stuck when you’re by yourself. Now you may have problems, get your shovel, tow strap and you’re hi lift if you don't have a winch don't forget your spare if there isn’t anything to anchor to this builds character and a strong back.

Haha

On a trail is ok, at work early spring stuck on a semi melted snow bank is another.

Ain't it sweet!

The JKU has evolved to be such a perfect vehicle, I don't miss my '42 GPW any more. Never thought that could happen.
