so true. When I had a yj the cj crowd disowned it because of its square lights "real jeeps have round lights" heard that a lot.

The I got a TJ and all I heard was how it was too car like and had lost the ruggedness of the jeep. The I got my jk and all I hear is how it isn't as jeepishly rugged as the TJ's.

I can say that I'm worried about the future jeep in the hands of fiat tho. I really how it doesn't have a lot of fiat influence.

I had ridden in a coworker's very noisy 2001 soft top Wrangler with manual transmission for many years. I always tried to get him to drive at lunch so I could ride in his Jeep and you really heard the engine roar as he shifted. I was finally ready to buy my first Jeep last year and I found a 2012 with a stick to test drive. The manual transmission in the 2012 was so boring to me. You didn't hear the engine with the quieter cabin and newer engine. I ended up getting an automatic since the 2012 manual shifted so smoothly and effortlessly. I was ruined by the Jeep experience I got from Jay's 2001 to consider a 2012 with a manual. I'm a fan of my smoother riding and quieter automatic JKU. Sadly Jay didn't get to see my JKU. Bad ticker.

When I was in the saab forum, the "last real saab" had a 2 stroke engine.

Ok, ok, when they started re-badging subarus it was pretty bad, but still... My 9000 "wasn't a real saab" because the ignition wasn't between the seats.

I'm pretty sure this happens in every car forum.

I too feel the advancements have brought new buyers including myself....back in 96 my wife and I went to a Jeep ride and drive...offroad course and you could drive the Wrangler, Cherokee and GC....got out of the Wrangler and i thought my god, I would never buy one of these....fast forward to April 2013, we are now the owners of a 12 JK because of the improvements made to make it more "plush".....By the way Jeep's arent plush...even $42K ones with leather, nav, heated seats, etc.....my 2013 Lexus GS350 is plush and i like it that way!!!

and i love bacon, boobies, beer, and also blowin s#@t up!!!

As long as they still offer a "basic" unit, I'm ok with people buying the fancy ones.

I have been known to come home from work, have one of the kids hop in and we hit our mud-caked ATV trail out back. With the windows or top down, dirt gets in. I like the easy no-muss of my JK, and I'm not afraid to soil it.

I have, indeed, driven a friend's that was so fancy, I too would have felt weird getting it dirty. Not sure yet how he feels.

I like the improvements in ride quality- but I would trade all of the MyGig schtick for a basic marine-grade radio and speakers and a fully sealed dash / all electronics to allow for less concern over rain / water intrusion.

New Jeeps aren't ever made to please Jeep owners. It doesn't matter if the Jeep is a JK, TJ, YJ, or even a CJ7. They are made to expand the Jeep market. This is also true for most products that are in the market. At the end of the day, they are still Jeeps and they function as Jeeps. As I have owned a TJ and I am now looking at a YJ, I get the original poster's point. One of the things I like about Jeeps is leaving the top off and if it rains, "oh well." It's just a fun aspect of Jeep ownership for me. From what I have seen of the JKs, if I owned one, I would be worried about that kind of stuff. My Jeep experience is going to be different than your Jeep experience but we all have a great Jeep experience and that's the great part. My Jeep experience is also going to be different from the guy who owns the 1971 CJ5. In his mind, maybe I lose something by not having a metal dash, no airbag and only a lap belt to hold me in. He may be right but I'm okay with that as well.

For the record, I gave up bacon but my wife still allows me to have boobies from time to time.

Ditto. That's what I thought the first time I saw it. The Fusion and the Taurus have the same grill.....the Mustang does NOT need to look like this too. I've owned 3 stangs in my time and plan on owning a 2010 eventually.....this is just horrible.....the invasion of the Euro/Italian wave needs to stay away from my American Classics!!! lol

I actually like how the fusion looks, but ford shouldn't make everything look like Chinese knock-offs of Aston martins need to step out on there own. They do need to revamp the mustang.... I say bring back the fox body!

I was thinking about how awesome it is that my new jeep is so much more comfortable and improved than my TJ which was like driving a tractor with a tent on top of it. And I got almost as base as you can get (MT soft top sport) outside of AC.

I was at a small jeep 'show' the other day and there was a lady with her kids that was part of a local jeep group. She had a JKU rubicon with leather, nav, heated seats and so on, but she wheels it with her kids in the back. That's probably not jeepy enough right?

When you're paying 40k+ for a Rubicon it better have some amenities. Mine is pretty much loaded and I like the fact that it is. Still rides like a Jeep though. There is no mistaking that its a Jeep and not a Lexus. That's why you see so many practically new used ones on dealer lots. "Gee lets get a Jeep, they look cool". 6 months later they hate the way it rides and they trade it in for the Lexus they should have gotten right from the get.

The fox body mustang was really a taurus with different doors.

Here's a 2014 taurus.

I think i'll pass.....

Not saying its not a real jeep or bashing anyone who got one, was just voicing my personal opinion on whats holding me back from trading in. Im allowed to do that right?
Uhm? I have ridden in a cherokee numerous times. My wrangler feels nothing like it. Least comfortable vehicle i've ever owned infact.

Nav is nice for offroad, but i use a portable garmin unit. It shows a blue trail everywhere i've been for the last 2000 miles. It's really nice in an ORV scramble area to see where you've already been, or how the heck you got to where you are. Sure, I dont need it, but its nice to have.

Heated seats would let you put the top down more often. Whats wrong with that? I dont have them though.

I like bacon, boobs, beer and wheeling my nice new "plush" JKU while eating bacon with my girl showing off her boobies drinking a beer

This thread was great by the way. Made my morning of having to come to work after the 4th soooo much better.

However the old CJ vs YJ vs TJ vs JK thing is like

Just get with the times and move on. That being said I will admit I do miss the water proof dash's... Hmmm has anyone tried siliconing thier dash yet??

What I dislike about grammar police on forums is that they try to devalue someone's opinion over the rules of language. Your message is essentially, "you're too stupid to have an opinion because you don't know where to place a comma." In the end, you've added nothing to the discussion and your only purpose is to try and make someone feel dumb. It seems awfully petty to me.

I heard JKU owners use rifles that aren't chambered in .45-70 and use smokeless powder as a propellant. Freaks! I met one of them using one of those new-fangled 1911 automatic pistols the other day. What a world!
