Not a happy Jeeper at the moment

So day before yesterday CEL pops on my 14 with 1600 miles, seems to run fine but smelled a faint burning smell. I couldn't pin down what it was and couldn't really notice anything leaking so took it to the dealership expecting it to be a bad sensor or something after work yesterday and they couldn't get to it till today. No issues I thought until they said that Chrysler doesn't provide a loaner unless you buy the coverage (which nobody told me about when I purchased the car, for $190 bucks I would have just added it). They said they would try to talk to corporate and get it covered, and perhaps I'm just spoiled by owning a Lexus before where they give you a loaner for something as simple as an oil change, but was a little frustrated to learn I might be paying out of pocket for a rental because of something breaking on a 3 month old Jeep.

On top of that when I went to grab stuff out of the Jeep to put in the rental I noticed a rather large puddle and what appeared to be oil dripping from around the transmission. They are taking a look at it now but any ideas as to what that could be? Rear main seal?

I'd be frustrated too, and good luck on the repair.

On the other hand, the last I saw Lexus price range is easily 2-4x what a Wrangler costs....they should be happy to give a few bon mots out to go with the financial demands they make on the purchaser.

For $190 they'll probably give you a buy in of some kind if they value your business.

Ya I know not to expect the same level of service, I had an IS-F and (before the LFA anyways) got treated like a god every time I brought it in lol. At the same time, I was really surprised to learn they don't stand behind their product enough to at least give you a loaner for the first 3 years when it's something they have to keep it overnight for. I'll def just purchase the alternate transportation warranty for $190, but also a little upset they didn't even mention it at the point of sale.

Hopefully they will be able to cover it this time since I get the feeling this is a repair that might take a while :-/

This is my suspicion as well without having had a chance to get under it and take a look. Would this throw a CEL though?

You've already paid for the rental.... I guarantee Chrysler and the dealer have already rolled potential costs like that into the price you paid? Customers pay for everything.... or Chrysler goes bankrupt, again!

You just didn't "work" Chrysler and the dealer right. I'm not claiming I could have either, but, saying the right things to the right people in the right way would probably get a rental. Many have been able to do it...

Keep after it! And, ask the dealer for a Chrysler customer satisfaction survey, just to get their attention.

Very true, I guess I was just naive to think bargaining for rental coverage would even be necessary. This is my first American purchase in awhile and was my first "new" car purchase ever. I think I'll try to get in touch with the dealership I bought it from if this dealership says they won't pay for the rental.

No CEL, just a small drip in the garage.

Statistically it happens to a few Jeeps, just sux when it's yours. Just think of all the smiles it will give you when this passes.

Sweet, good to know! I'm not too worried about it, known quite a few friends and family members who have had them and haven't really had any issues. I suppose it is just worse when it's brand new and it's in the shop but I know sh#t happens

The wife is bringing our 2 week old JKU in today, CEL came on when she got in it after picking up lunch. We might have all of 600 miles on it.

Nice, my first CEL was at about 275 miles. CEL came on and was running real rough. Went away after about 10 minutes and wrote that off as bad gas since I was still on the first tank and almost on E.

Hope it's nothing major for you!

Just a refresher:

You can easily read stored OBDII error codes in any JK by doing the following:

Starting with the ignition key in the off possition, cycle the key through 'Acc' to 'On' and back off (quickly - before dash lights display and 'ding' is heard) three times. Off-On-Off-On-Off-On. All stored codes will read out in the odometer display.

Yup good info! I tried this yesterday but it didn't show any codes just the ----- and then "done"

Just got off the phone with them and it seems a seal near the oil pump assembly went bad so when the oil got low it threw the CEL. They said since it's a newer car they are going to cover the rental so pretty good news all around. Now it just sucks having to wait till wed to get my Wrangler back Supposed to be nice this weekend too

Good outcome!

Better to have as good as can be under the circumstances experience with your dealer. A dealer who you feel like you can return to for warranty work is likely to be important to your enjoyment of your Jeep! Things do go wrong, even on brand new vehicles. Better now that at 36,001 miles!

I'm happy that they covered your rental. I believe that the dealership has way more than Chrysler about whether or not you get a loaner. I would've like to have that $190 rental protection disclosed to me when I bought my Jeep but it wasn't mentioned. I would've got it. I bought a new 1991 Caravan new and when the transmission started acting up, the dealership gave me a used Caravan to drive while they fixed mine. I think it took a couple weeks and they didn't charge me anything.
