Question Not another performance question!

I searched and read quite a few performance threads and it seems like the overall opinion is that chipping/programming, exhaust and intake are not worth the $ put in when it comes to power put out.

My question is that - My JK has 144k miles on it and the other day I got a check engine light that equated to a cat restriction code.

I want to remove the cats (I believe there is two) and straight pipe that part out. Is it worth also replacing the muffler or is the gain marginal? I would anticipate some power being given back from the cat but do not know if I should do the muffler as well.

You do realize that it's illegal to run without cats.

I imagine as long as I reinstall the 02 sensors I should get a little power and not have any check engine lights.

144K on a JK? You have a TJ in your avatar.

Regardless...x2 on what Jimbo said.
