It has been a week now since i changed to 5.13's and thought I would tell you what I think and feel about it.
The cost was just shy of $1500 out the door and used G2 gears and Master Install sets.
The price was my major problem, but after the slow off the start and time to highway speeds as well as running with OD off, I had enough.
The gears themselves are a lot smaller as in pinion shaft teeth. The contact on the ring is noticeably smaller. I don't do rock crawling anymore and don't think that would be a problem.
After picking it up from the installer, the first thing I did was set the gear size and tire size with my Procal.
Okay, the pedal is a lot easier or the Jeep responses quicker is my first observation. Wow, from a start it is back to normal as I think it should have been without the 35's.
Babied it for about 100 miles as the installer said and then whatever.
Boy has whatever changed...... I have to watch the pedal on dirt roads as a heavy one will spin the tires. That was impossible before.
Highway driving at 75 is great. Run about 2600 rpm and it doesn't hunt in OD. at all. It doesn't downshift with the cruise set unless there is a really good hill. (I live in Florida)
And, didn't know I had one, the ECO light is on almost all the time.
I am very happy.
Now, about the price.
I seem to be getting about 2-3 mpg better, computed not the liar in the Jeep.
With that it will take about 50,000 miles to get my money back at $4 a gallon.
Since I see my having this Jeep for over 100,000 miles, it looks good.
Now about that warranty from Jeep.........
Bottom line for me is this was worth it, but for others there are a lot of things to think about before you do it.
Thanks for listening......
