OEM front bumper pealing WTF!

Anyone have this problem yet??? My plan was to swap bumpers in the summer but only 350 miles and this is happening

Top coat is pealing and you can flake it off with your finger nail in the spot that is shown and it looks like it will start next to the other fog light as well.

Looks like the Chrysler owes me a new cover

What is on the bumper that can even peel? Is that something new on the more recent models? My 09 is just plastic and it has nothing to peel off... :/

My 2011 just seems like a plastic bumper as well... I don't know what to say about that!

It's like a bedliner coating and here is some of the chips that I'll save for the dealer...

Very thin and the plastic below the coating is a much darker black so might have to swap bumpers sooner then I would have liked

Not the case...they are putting on a thin liner coat. Look at the flake chip pieces in the next photo...

looks like that bumper has been painted already, and the paint didnt bond with the plastic. I would venture a guess is that it was damaged in transit, and someone did a quick spray to hide a sin. Take it back and ask for a new bumper, even if you change it this spring....you paid for a new one, not a refurbished one.

Same exact coating on the back bumper and on the other places of the front bumper you would swear it is just plastic straight through but not the case.

They are putting a very thin layer of this coating on the bumpers that give it a rough texture.

Obviuosly this did not bond correctly at the factory but no way it was damaged in transit that I am certain on!

Build date 1/11.

if you're sure that's the case then take it back and get a new one from your dealer.....it's obviously a defect

Yeah, take it back. Even if you're upgrading, take it back so you can sell the stocker for more.

i dunno, i have scraped mine in ways that if there were a thin coating on it, i'd have found out. nobody else has seen this either, so i'm guessing it's either a new to 2011 thing or they tried a quick fix on a scuffed bumper.

Landmark you are right!!! I can not believe this crap...
I am an easy going dood but deception/dishonesty lights my fire

Dealership closes at 3 on Friday but I went down there to compare and it looks like touch up was done on my front bumper but only between the Fog lights! (much rougher in that area only compared to the rest)

And it probably would have been hidden but I empasized to the dealer do not screw on the front plate and leave that for me.

I will be asking for a meeting on Monday with the dealership GM and owner. I am PO buying a brand new Jeep and have to deal with a cover up. GMAFB

That is disappointing that they didn't inform you of the bumper before you bought it.

Hopefully they will be helpful and set things right.

Whew.... I've got the same Jeep a 2011 Tango 6sp. and after reading all this I went out to check mine... Its solid plastic and nothing to scrap off... So yeah, some one tried to cover a mistake on your bumper. Sorry for your luck though. Surely the dealer will own up to it and make it right. Good Luck!

Plenty of people have cut their bumpers for various reasons and never complained of it pealing like that.

Should be solid plastic. I know many that have had their bumpers fade alone with the fenders and use heat guns to bring them back to black. You can't do thast unless it is solid plastic

Since it's only between the fog lights and you didn't want a front plate it sounds to me like the dealer had already drilled the holes for the plate and had an airbrush company like carnica fill in the holes and paint it. I'd ask them to put on a new bumper, whether they take it off of another wrangler in stock or order one you deserve a new bumper. The bumpers aren't painted at the factory. You can always tell if a bumper on a Wrangler has been painted by the color. Painted bumpers are always darker and the finish is almost glossy but not like an armor all cleaner/protectant (hope that makes sense) And as you noticed rougher feeling.

I work in the molding industry, this could be a defect in the plastic when it was molded, causing delamination of the skin layer of the plastic. I would be taking it back for sure!

That is what I thought at first before reading some of the other opinions...

It's just that area feels much rougher when you rub the back of your finger across it compared to the rest of the bumper. And I tell you if it was touched up the blending is matched perfect so you can not really tell for sure.

Now with the front plate there would have been no time Pat for them to correct that mistake. I was with the salesperson in his office when he had both plates.I told him to make sure that they put the front plate on the passenger floor when he handed them off to the prep guy. I got my Jeep 1 hour after that so I don't see how they could of fixed that so quick.

UPDATE!

Salesperson called me back after getting my upset email (photos) about what I thought was a patch job.

Said he would take care of my bumper. Told him to call me back on Monday so we can talk with the dealership GM and find out what happened.

I'll update next week once they inspect it.

After MVines thoughts I'm still 50/50 on what happened and I'm just soooo lucky either way

Although it gives you a good excuse to get a badass aftermarket bumper.

True but funds are the issue...badass bumper will weigh more so would need a lift

Would be nice if Mopar offered the O-R Bumper with the OE fogs built into that winch delete bumper they offer...I don't want to lose the OE fogs and many of the aftermarket fogs brackets will be bouncing the beam from vibrations.

1 month in I am close to 2k in mods replacing the joke 16" stock wheels on the Sport with COD/BFG "take offs" and Mopar rails so NOMAS for at least 6 months

And I forgot I snapped photos of the JK on the arrival day at the dealership (bad snow storm) and even though not the best close-up I can see no damage on the bumper from the transport end...
